Friday TTAC3 Shootout

Went to TTAC3 with Charlene and I had a blast. To be honest, before the game I wasn’t much feeling up to it but I figure what the heck might as well get my airsoft fix for the weekend since I can’t go to Wasaga tomorrow and there’s no game on Sunday. Saw many familiar faces as well as a few new ones. 🙂

I really enjoyed the home/condo assault style scenarios that Sean set up. My most memorable moment was when I was rushing the second floor with two guys holed up inside and I was able to take them out without a scratch. 🙂 I am rather pleased with how I played tonight, man CQB can be such a rush.

Edit: 2006-10-01 Just noticed I posted the wrong link, here are the pictures I took…

M14 BB feeding issue solved!

Well it took me three hours of tweaking but I figured out the issue with my TM M14 misfeeding BB’s. Heh it’s almost my fault for not leaving well enough alone, I pretty much replaced all the parts inside the mechbox with Guarder components and I was having an issue with the Guarder cylinder head (the rubber stopper on the back specifically).

The problem was with the rubber cushion. I think it’s designed to absorb some of the kinetic energy from the piston so you don’t damage the piston head, cylinder and mechbox during firing. Unfortunately the piece of rubber can move out of place and on my gun, it was blocking the air valve that feeds into the hopup unit. What that means is not as much air is being pushed into the barrel to propel the BB. When the piston draws back (to fire another BB), it creates a vacuum which sucks the BB backwards. That would explain why BB’s would roll out the barrel if I pointed it towards the ground…

Anyway I tried putting the rubber cushion back in place but after about 20 shots the M14 started to act up. After tearing the mechbox apart again (which takes about 45 min per) I decided to remove the cushion completely. After that was done, the TM M14 was firing beautifully! I must have put 5 mags worth of BBs through the gun without any feeding problems. The M14 is slightly louder now and I guess I’ll have to replace the piston head sooner (it’s only a $15 part) but I don’t care as long as the gun is behaving well. 🙂

Doug’s first airsoft game

My cousin Douglas and I were suppose to play an airsoft game on Saturday however it was cancelled (without notice) due to the threat of rain and thunderstorms. It didn’t rain and the weather was beautiful on Saturday but enough about that. 😉

We were lucky and another game was being held on Sunday so we went to FlagRaiders for quick and dirty skirmish. I let him use the G36C and holster the Glock 18C as his side arm while I stuck with the M14 and Hi Capa. Initially I wanted to play an assault style role with Doug, however I was stuck playing sniper due to the range and accuracy of the M14. Heh when your teammates require long range accuracy to pin down enemies, you can’t refuse. 😉

Douglas played pretty well, he was obviously green but still got a decent number of kills. Boy he goes through BBs quickly but it’s easier for newbs to spray and pray. Myself I played rather poorly but much of that had to due with the M14 consistently jamming up on me. I’m not sure what the issue is with the gun but I’ll have to strip it down and do a thorough inspection. At home it fires beautifully but for most of the game I was plagued with feeding and misfiring. It got so bad that near the end it was only firing every third shot. 🙁

At the end we played a pistols match and that was a lot of fun. 🙂 Douglas seemed to have a good time with the Glock 18C although he’s not aggressive enough for a pistols match. I absolutely love the TM Hi Capa 5.1, it was easily the best pistol on the field! 😀

It was nice to see all the newbies playing their first game, however I think a few people were too pumped up on adrenaline. I noticed that many players were not calling shots and it was very frustrating at times. For instance during the pistols match, I was within 10 meters of a person and hit his feet (he was hiding behind the bus but his feet and legs were exposed) about 5 times. I was close enough to see the BB ricochet off the boot, yet he didn’t call himself out. I was talking to DragonHawk about it after and while it’s possible that you don’t feel shots to the boot, you’ll definitely hear them and it’s a distinct sound.

I follow the rule when in doubt call yourself out! It’s just easier and doesn’t piss other people off…

I still had a good time even though my M14 was not functioning properly. Hopefully I’ll be able to fix whatever is wrong so I can kick more ass next time around. Douglas had a good time and I think I’ve hooked him onto airsoft, haha his mom will hate me. 😉

Oh I didn’t take any pictures, it was raining most of the day and didn’t want to damage my camera. Others did take pictures and when they’re posted online, I’ll provide a link. 🙂

Airsoft gunsmithing on the wknd

Anyone close to me knows I get obsessive compulsive about things that I’m into and right now I’m caught up in airsoft. It’s just such a fun game to play, in a sense it allows me to relive my childhood where I’d play soldier with friends and it’s a great form of exercise. I hate working out normally but I definitely feel myself getting stronger and every game my stamina improves.

Over the past weekend, I replaced the mechbox shell in Mark’s MP5 and tried to figure out why his Glock 17 jams up all the time. Its dirty work but it’s a lot of fun and I get to learn more about gun internals. 😀 The MP5 is set and shooting well (muzzle velocity ~95 to 100m/s) however I have yet to figure out the problem with the Glock 17. With no BB’s loaded it fires ok, once you load it up however the gun jams every 4-5 shots blowing off all the gas in the mag. It’s definitely frustrating but I’ll give it another go again tonight.

Hehe with all the guns in my condo I figure I might as well take a pic. 😉 The MP5A4 and the Glock 17 (pistol on the right) is Mark’s. The suppressor on the MP5 definitely adds character and makes me want to get another one. Not this year though, I’m done buying guns in 2006.

Btw no I’m not a gun nut and I do support a ban on real guns. Airsoft is a just a hobby and I have a pretty balanced social life. I guess that’s my disclaimer after last week’s Montreal shooting rampage…

Firday night shootout

Last night I went to TTAC3 with Mark and Charlene and met up with Mike down there. CQB is always a lot of fun however I noticed (not just me, Mark and Charlene as well) that quite a few players were not calling shots. It’s alright though, many are newbies and in the heat of the moment it’s possible not to notice I guess. I follow the rule, when in doubt call out. 😉

Mike’s TM Hi Cap 4.3 worked out pretty well and the dude played awesome for his second game. Hehe too bad he can’t make it to field games yet but I’m definitely up for more CQB action. 😀

TTAC3_Everyone.jpg

Yes we’re all sweaty because it gets damn hot running around with vests and such on. No real update, my GBBs performed well but Mark had some problems with his Glock 17. 🙁 I took a couple of games off to take pictures and they can be found here. It was a bit dark so the pictures didn’t come out that well but you can still get a sense of the game. Overall another fun quick and dirty CQB session at TTAC3. 😀

Wet one at Flag Raiders

Yesterday Mark, Charlene (his gf), Maggie and I went to a Flag Raiders game and it was great. Everyone had a lot of fun even though it was a bit wet due to the reminisce
of hurricane Ernesto. LOL every time we got to a specific field to play, it started to rain and when we went off to reload the rain would stop…

During setup I was trying to adjust the hopup on my M14 but there was obviously something wrong because it was struggling to lob BBs past 5 meters, needless to say I was extremely disappointed. After a bit of cursing I shook the M14 up and down and that actually improved things! It wasn’t shooting as hard as it should considering the internals that were installed but it was adequate for the day and the range was good. I could hit people 50 meters away and lay down suppressing fire at enemies up to 70 meters. The chrony wasn’t available so I couldn’t find out how hard the M14 was shooting which was a shame. 🙁 I also forgot the P90 at home so Maggie was stuck using the MP5K while Charlene went at things with the G36C.

There were a lot of fun games, from straight team elimination to traitor and attack and defend scenarios. For the most part, things were relatively dry but at the end the rain started to get pretty heavy. I took one big game out to take pictures and they can be found here. Lots of good action shots and as you can see the field of play was pretty large with lots of structures and woods to take cover in or with.

Here are a few other pictures showing a few various things…

No M14 review from me this time around, I don’t feel I got enough experience with the gun to say much about it. There’s a newbie style game in two weeks and I’ll report about how the M14 is then.

Sept 06/06 Edit: Alex (game host) has just posted the pictures that he took here. Heh you can see me in action (1 , 2 and 3) there although with the M14 I can hang around the back which is out of range of most people’s AEGs. Man I love the M14. 😀

P90 in the house

It’s the beginning of September and my birthday isn’t for another two and a half months but Maggie got me an early B-day present, a used TM P90 RDS airsoft gun. 😀 It’s an odd looking rifle (or is it SMG?) but thanks to its bullup design, it’s compact yet accurate thanks to the relatively long inner barrel. In fact it’s the same length as my G36C which means it’s not just an awesome CQB weapon, it’s also decent outdoors.

P90_2.jpg

The second picture gives you an idea at the size of the P90. It’s stock so it’ll probably shoot around 90m/s but next week I’ll get a new spring which should allow the gun to fire BB’s with a muzzle velocity in the 110m/s range. I’m not going to go overboard with mags or accessories, this gun will be mainly for Maggie in the field so a hi cap mag is about the extent of goodies to get.

Thanks babe, you’re the best! 😀

The TM M14, an awesome rifle!

I received the TM M14 yesterday and damn that gun is pretty impressive even right in the box. The gun and magazines were in near mint condition (a few scratches here and there) and functioned flawlessly. Even in its stock form I could see why people were saying the M14 is the most accurate AEG, every shot is so consistant! The BB doesn’t travel very quickly (suppose to shoot around 95m/s stock) but it shoots straight and that’s most important.

At 112cm in height and 6kg in weight, the gun is very big and heavy and I dread carrying it around all day. Haha Mark was kind enough to offer to hold it for me while we’re in the field on Sunday, too bad we’re on opposing teams. 😉 Hehe Mark I’ll be gunning for you and with this thing I’ll definitely outrange ya easily. 😀

I have since upgraded the gun with metal bushings, a Guarder spring guide and Guarder SP100 spring and it should be shooting in the rage of 115m/s. With the 6.03mm Prometheus tightbore inner barrel and Guarder cylinder kit (which is coming in the mail), that should boost the muzzle velocity to a nice 120m/s. I have to say though, the TM M14 is the worst gun I have ever worked on!!! There are litterally a hundred parts that are 2-3mm in size and the manual does not show how to put things back together! 🙁 Took me almost two hours to figure out what goes where and in the end I still have a small spring extra (3mm in length). The TM M14 seems to shoot ok so I’m not going to tear it apart to find out where that spring goes. I guess if it breaks on Sunday I’ll know I screwed up, in the mean time I’ll keep it till I open the thing again.

Cosmetic upgrades include a King Arms Bipod and Bushnell 3-9 x 40 scope to give the TM M14 a sniper look. 🙂

The second picture shows the TM M14 compared to my TM G36C, quite a difference in size eh? I’ll get an idea at how the M14 performs when I play at Flag Raiders on Sunday, will report back on how it goes then. 😀

TM M14 Incoming!!!

I am trading my reliable G&P M4A1 for a TM M14 assault rifle. While the G&P has been good to me, there are just too many M4 players in the Toronto area and every other person uses with one. It’s so common that I’m turned off the design and I haven’t used mine in almost two months, even though it’s technically a better gun than my G36C. Anyway on Monday I’ll be shipping it out to an airsoft player in Quebec and he’ll be sending a TM M14 my way.

I’m so excited, the TM M14 is the most accurate stock rifle on the market and after I’m finished tweaking it, it’ll be sniper capable. 😉

IMG_0001.jpg

Here’s the picture he took of it and the gun comes with a hi capacity magazine, low capacity mag and a large 8.4V 3600mAh battery. I’m sending the G&P M4A1, one mid cap, one CA low cap and one 8.4V 1400mAh mini battery. Man I can’t wait, it’s going to be so sweet! it’s a one to one trade and the only thing I’m paying is shipping my gun to him (same for him) I hope I get it in time to use for next week’s field game. 😀

Husband Wife Combo at FlagRaiders

Today Maggie and I went to play airsoft at FlagRaiders and it was totally sweet… It was her first game and she played quite well, getting down and dirty right from the beginning. Haha this from “I don’t want to get dirty!” girl. 😉 There were ~50 players and each game individual game was quite good. I’m too tired for to write a wrap up right now, will post one tomorrow. I was very impressed with Maggie, she kicks some major ass! 😀

I took two or three games off to play combat photographer, during that time I must have been shot 30-40 times but so is the price to take some awesome pics. 😉 Here’s a few teasers, nothing big just us in our gear before or during breaks. 😉 Uploading the rest right now, will edit this later with a link to the pics.

Doesn’t she look scary haha… God my face is so fat, I need to exercise more!

Edit: Here are some pics I took at the game. It was my first time being a “war photographer” so my timing is bad (why does everyone need to reload when I’m taking pics?) but you get the idea and feel of the game. 😉
