Bang bang with a newbie. ;-)

Today I went with Brayden and my coworker Laura to Silverdale gun club and it was a lot of fun but before I get to the shooting, lol I want to talk about picking up Bray. So I get to his house, call and there was no answer so I am about to knock and the front door opens… I’m greeted by Ammo but lol he didn’t like that a stranger opened the door! Haha I immediately closed the patio door though that wouldn’t stop him if he wanted to come at me lol. The commotion woke Brayden up, he set his alarm wrong so the guy was still asleep.

He told me that he tripped over ammo yesterday, jamming his pinky toe on his bed frame breaking the digit… It looked pretty bad and I could tell he was in pain but the dude insisted to come, lol he’s definitely tougher than me. While I was waiting for Brayden I took a few pictures of Ammo.

In the last picture I took it with my size 10 boot so you can get an idea at scale, yeah he’s a big one and just over a year old too!!!

Anyway after picking up Brayden we went to Laura’s place and she drove, it was a much more comfortable ride in her Xtera than the Mini lol. I’m definitely glad we took her car, the area was covered with snow and the roads to Silverdale are quite rough, I could see the Mini getting stuck… Anyway when we get to the club we sign in and I got to look at all the toys in at the gun store… I was SUPER tempted to buy something but in the end I was good and kept my credit card in my pocket haha.

We went directly to the action range and had fun there for hours… Laura brought her Remington 870, I brought Temir’s Ruger 10/22 and Brayden brought his Glock 34 and AR-15. Hehe it was funny to watch Laura shoot her 870 and she was not ready for the recoil of a 12 gauge magnum slug. 😉 She quite enjoyed shooting the Ruger 10/22 and seemed afraid of the Glock and AR-15… Oh well she’s a girl right ;), after a few more times I’m sure she’ll have no problems shooting those guns.

Haha it was nice to shoot with someone with less experience than me. 😉 In the last picture I was shooting Brayden’s new AR-15 and boy is it a lot of fun to shoot… I absolutely love it and talked Maggie into letting me get one too so now I’m in the market for one. Not sure how much 5.56 we went through but we shot 200 rounds of .22LR and at least a couple hundred rounds of 9mm… Luckily I wasn’t a total leach and split 1000 rounds of 9mm with Brayden and got him to pick me up two bricks (500 rds each brick) of .22LR.

We left the range at around 1PM, had a quick lunch at McDs and then went home… I’m glad we left when we did, that way I could still spend time with Brandon and we went for a walk to the local Timmies so I could get him an Frozen Lemonade which is one of his favorite drinks.

LOL Maggie complained later that it was too cold out for a drink like that but I disagree and he loved it. Man what a great weekend, it was definitely very fun and I enjoyed it very much. 🙂

Shopping!

So on Saturday Maggie had the day off and we went to Vaughan Mills to walk around. I’ll admit it, I went because I wanted to look at the toys at Bass Pro Shop but before that we walked around the mall and it was nice to get out with the family. Brandon enjoyed running and near Bass Pro, there were a lot of Vaughan municipality tables with informative information and other stuff. We picked up a very cute little plastic fireman’s hat for B and he loved it.

Walking around Bass Pro Shop, I knew the chances of me buying something is slim as the store stocks mainly hunting gear while I’m more interested in the tactical stuff. I did spot a really nice Benelli M4 however the $2,119 price tag was too rich for me unfortunately. I did pick up some dehydrated food for next week’s airsoft game and a .22LR speed loader but that’s it. A bit later I took Brandon with me so Maggie could shop in peace and went to the Toys R Us, lol I like spoiling my son.

I don’t remember what we were playing in the last picture but I thought it was cute. 🙂 Hehe yeah Brandon really is the center of our world…

After we went home and relaxed in the afternoon, then out for an early dinner at the spicy food restaurant that we like.

WOO!

So today I come home from work and what do I have in the mail, my PAL/RPAL license!!! 😀 Oh man I’m so stoked about it and I just bought my first gun. 😉 A Facebook post on Marstar Canada’s page said that the $75 SKS deal ($360 with 1440 rds of ammo) is coming to an end on April 1st, I looked at a few other retailers with similar deals and they’re all sold out so perhaps the source is drying up? In any case I wanted to get one because it’s inexpensive, comes with a lot of ammo and it’s not restricted so I don’t need an ATT to move it to a gun club.

Well technically I didn’t buy it just yet, I placed an order through their online store and they’ll get back to me on shipping after they check my PAL number.

I’m also on the lookout for a shotgun and would love to get a Mossberg 590A1 if I can. 😉

This is absolutely insane

If you need any evidence that the US is moving backwards here it is…

Taxpayers in 14 states will bankroll nearly $1 billion this year in tuition for private schools, including hundreds of religious schools that teach Earth is less than 10,000 years old, Adam and Eve strolled the garden with dinosaurs, and much of modern biology, geology and cosmology is a web of lies.

“I don’t think the function of public education is to prepare students for the turn of the 19th century,” said Eric Meikle, project director at the National Center for Science Education.

It’s scary how the rise of the religious fundamentalists are ruining the country and no one dares stand up for what is right… The government should have every right to set a standard on what to teach the kids and I certainly feel a lot of sympathy for the children who are taught this mumbo jumbo. When they reach the real world, they’ll be totally useless as they don’t have the proper educational foundation for the 21st century.

I’ve always said the evangelical movement is much smarter than the jihadists, violence gets you a lot of attention fast but if you truly want to change the system, you need to do it politically… And that’s why the evangelical movement is even more dangerous, they’ve infected the western world with its bull shit.

Oh and if you want another laugh, creationists feel they should get equal time on the show Cosmos

Yeah no, as Dr. Tyson said science is true whether you believe it or not and extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. There is none on the god side and if you still believe, then you’re simply irrational.

Relaxing day

Ahh just what the doctor ordered…

This morning we went to Canadian Tire, I bought myself a new hockey bag because the plastic guide rail on my old bag broke, the Bauer bag I bought is slightly smaller but it can be used as a backpack and is still large enough to fit my LBT 6094B so yay for that. After CT, I dropped Maggie off at the subway as she had to go into the office today to do some OT and at the wage she’s making I have absolutely no problems with that. 😉

For lunch I met up with my mom but before we went out to eat Brandon and I chilled at her place for about 10 minutes.

20140323_103123

LOL the whole time Brandon was telling me how much more he loves grandma over me… Lunch was fun and because I’m cheap I let my mom treat us. Haha kind of hard to argue with your mom when she insists.

After dropping off my mom we went home, Brandon insisted he wasn’t sleepy but within 5 minutes of laying down he was snoring away lol he’s so funny.

Maggie came home mid afternoon and we just relaxed the rest of the day. Brandon was good so we ordered some pizza for dinner and he was a happy kid.

20140323_17214720140323_172153

Maggie is putting Brandon to sleep and I’m chilling in my man cave… Too bad the weekend is over, I could have used more. 😉

So many snakes

Today after dropping Maggie off at her retail location, I took Brandon to Reptilia in Vaughan. He loves animals and knew he’d enjoy it so win win right. 🙂 Funny Brandon wasn’t really afraid of anything before but as he’s grown older he’s become more timid and was even scared to enter the viewing area. Not sure why it wasn’t particularly dark or noisy but I guess kids will be kids.

Here are some pictures that I took while we were enjoying ourselves…

We caught the day’s first show and Brandon got to touch a baby turtle, king snake and monitor lizard. 🙂 The look on his face when he touched the baby animals was priceless, unfortunately I only had my cell phone with me and the pictures didn’t turn out well because it was dark but it was awesome. He was a bit tired and at 12 we left Reptilia, of course not before browsing the gift shop… Luckily he didn’t want anything expensive so I bought a couple of dinosaur eggs for him then we went home.

After lunch and his nap, we played a bit then picked up Maggie around 6PM. Relaxed the rest of the day and we’ll do pretty much the same tomorrow because Maggie needs to go into the office and work some OT.

YES!

Woo was checking the RCMP website on Monday and noticed that my PAL/RPAL licensing has been approved!!! I should be getting my license in the next two weeks, oh man super stoked and can’t wait to shoot my own guns! 😀

Amazing!

Yesterday scientists working in the South Pole announced yesterday that they’ve discovered gravitational waves from the big bang with a confidence level greater than 5 sigma!

Not until now, anyway. In a discovery physicists are calling “huge,” “extraordinary” and “spectacular,” a team of observers using a microwave-sensitive telescope at the South Pole has found the first direct evidence of gravitational waves—and the strongest proof of inflation to date, all in one shot. “When I got the call,” says Marc Kamionkowski, a theorist at Johns Hopkins University who wasn’t involved in the research, “I had to ask if it was real. To me, this is bigger than the Higgs boson.” If it’s confirmed by other groups, says Avi Loeb, chair of the Harvard astronomy department and also not a participant in the research, “it’s worth a Nobel.”

Intriguingly, the BICEP2 result matches predictions for what physicists call grand unification theory. At the very high energy suggested by BICEP2, three fundamental forces in physics – the strong, weak and electromagnetic forces – should have been merged into one force. As the universe cooled and energy scales dropped, the strong force was the first to peel off from this merger, and previous theories suggested that event could have triggered inflation.

Absolutely amazing, I’m at a loss for words… I tell Maggie, I want Brandon to be a physicist so he can do something for humanity and this is certainly super exciting stuff!

TAC14

This year Brian held the TAC14 convention at Ultimate Airsoft instead of TTAC3 and it was a big hit. Not only was there a ton of more space it allowed the team tables to reappear which is something I love. 🙂 Unfortunately since I was infected with pink eye, I couldn’t make it but the guys put on a good show.

Hehe and Q brought out his new toy… 😉

Yes it’s definitely very cool and we’ll take it out for the upcoming Nightfall 3 game in June. 🙂 Eddy was impressed, lol he made a small claymore RC car a couple of years back so he can appreciate the level of difficulty…

Hopefully I’ll be good to go for next year as it looked like I missed a lot of fun.
