Jing Gong G36 AEG Review

Here is the “long “ anticipated review of the Jing Gong G36C AEG, I know a few guys emailed me about it so here it is. 🙂

On Monday a friend came over with the JG G36C brand new in box. The packaging was not flashy, it simply displayed JG’s model number on the side with a bit of common knowledge information on the side. It was what’s inside that’s truly interesting.

G36C_1.jpgBattery_Charger.jpg

Aside from the G36C, the gun also comes with an 8.4V 1100 mAh NiMH battery, a wall charger, a pack of ~200 BB’s, the gun manual and a couple of shooting targets. JG includes a high capacity magazine with the gun so you’re pretty much ready to rock and roll right out of the package. Note because BuyAirsoft imports the guns from the US, the flash hider of the JG G36C is neon orange.

The gun weighs in at just under 3kg (6 lbs) with the battery installed and is about the same weight as my TM G36C and CA G36. In size and physical characteristics the gun is identical to my TM G36C and everything between the two was cross compatible (mag well, body, mags, flash hider, etc). The body has a slightly glossier look than the TM or CA however it feels as solid and there is no flexing or creaking anywhere.

G36Cs.jpgG36Cs2.jpg

Noticeably missing on the JG G36C are any trademarks on both the gun and magazine. As you can see pretty much every part is physically identical to the TM, JG does claim that every part is cross compatible with the TM gun. My TM low cap, CA hi cap, MAG mid cap magazines were all compatible with the JG G36C.

G36C_2.jpgG36C_Wiring.jpg

Like the TM and CA G36C’s, a mini battery can be installed into the foregrip . Connect the battery, put it into place via the guide clip and slide the foregrip over top. While waiting for the 8.4V 1100mAh battery to charge, I installed an 8.4V 1400mAh battery and wanted to give the JG G36C a few test shots. With my low caps filled with 0.2g BB’s I proceeded to test the gun. The first thing I noticed was that the JG G36C was extremely loud. It seemed to fire pretty straight so next up was to chrony the gun with my Guarder Speeder 2000.

After firing a few rounds I was pretty amazed to see the initial velocity readings however the large variance between shots was also worrying. BB’s checked in at between 350-370 fps, the muzzle velocity is certainly impressive however a 20 fps difference is much too high for comfort. I would later find the source of the problem and will get into that a bit later.

While test firing the JG G36C I did notice another problem which would turn out to be electrical. There would be approximately a 2 second delay between trigger pull and shots fired from the gun on semi, full auto sometimes would cut out after 5 shots. I was looking forward to opening the mechbox but now I also have a problem to trouble shoot.

Stripping down the JG G36C is exactly the same as TM and CA, remove the magazine well pin, magazine well, rear pin behind the stock and then push the hopup forward and pull the mechbox out. After removing the mechbox from the pistol grip we’re greeted by this.

Mech1.jpgMech2.jpg

If you’re going to be working with the JG G36C mechbox becareful because there are a lot of sharp edges everywhere! After undoing all the screws and removing the stopper rail the mechbox was opened up.

Mech3.jpgCA.jpg

Here is a breakdown of all major components, JG uses plastic bushings (which was replaced with metal), plastic spring guide, plastic piston/piston head and CA gears. The piston head is ventilated for a better O ring seal however everything else is exactly the same as TM. There was a ton of grease everywhere with the majority inside the cylinder by the cylinder head and blowing into the inner barrel.

Spring_Guide.jpgMech4.jpgContacts.jpg

Here are a few other details I noticed while inside the mechbox. The plastic spring guide only had one peg, it was clear the other side had snapped off but I’m not sure whether I did that or whether it came like that. I was not able to find the other side even after I cleaned up my work bench. I tried to installed a Guarder ver 3 metal spring guide only to find out that the slits for the spring guide arms were not thoroughly cut. I had to chisel away at the holes and even then the fit was not as comfortable as I would have liked. It ended up to be a lot more work than I expected so I put the plastic spring guide back in and figure I would deal with this when the stock piece breaks.

Next the mechbox contacts which are usually completed by the selector plate were soldered together. I don’t know why this was done but it works so I guess that’s all that matters.

The problem with the gun turned out to be with the Jing Gong G36C wiring assembly. There was poor contact with the positive wire which runs to the motor and I had to resolder that part. After that was done the JG G36C was as responsive as my TM G36C. 🙂 It did take about 5 hours of frustrating tweaking to locate the issue but I’m glad I did.

Putting the mecbox back into the body I did a bit more test firing, the trigger issue was gone however the muzzle velocity still varied by 20 fps. As I mentioned earlier, the piston was pushing a lot of the grease into the inner barrel and it needed to be cleaned out badly. After that was done muzzle velocity really tightened up and shots varied between 365-370 fps. 😀

The next big question with the Jing Gong G36C will be its reliability and that is something I cannot answer right now. It will be my friend’s main weapon for the season so I guess I’ll report if any issues arise.

After seeing and taking apart the JG G36C, it is a gun I would recommend to novice players. As a starter kit, it comes with everything you need although I’d probably get a better charger and more magazines when the finances allow. Just make sure you have a gunsmith handy though in case you run into problems like my friend did, yes it should work 100% right out of the box but for the price and what you get, it still seems worth the gamble. 🙂

Nov 26/07 Edit: I see through my referral traffic that many of you quoting the problems I experienced as fact for all JG G36Cs and that’s definitely not the case. I wanted to make it clear that the issues I had were with this gun only. I’ve seen a few more JG G36Cs and none had the electrical issue that affected this gun. Hope that clears a few things up, yes you can get a lemon which is difficult to fix but overall they seem to be pretty good. 🙂

  1. I just wanted to make sure and thank you for that super review on the JG G36C. I was trying to decide between the A&K M4 S-System and the JG G36C and pretty much thanks to your super informative breakdown and review of the gun, I have decided to go with the JG.

Thanks again man, I REALLY appreciate your work!

    David

  2. Hello David.

I’m glad that you enjoyed the review, the JG G36C was a pretty sweet gun. I’ll be posting an update next week, my friend has a field game this weekend and will let me know how the gun performs.

  3. How long do you need to charge the battery….

  4. Hello Steve.

The 8.4V 1100mAh battery takes ~5 hours to charge when the battery is completely dead. If you’re recharging the battery that still has juice, I would say check it every 10 minutes or so. When the battery is warm to the touch, it’s fully charged. 🙂

  5. Hi,
I’m glad you put a review on the gun. I was having an issue with fire rate (it was amazingly slow) so I heard my wiring could be faulty so I opened the g-box to find out what was wrong. But I made a huge mistake and I had no experience opening a gearbox at all. When me and one of my friends who has experience looked at the gearbox he recommended I replace the piston and spring guide. It makes sense since the spring is an M120 and there are parts that require upgrades in accordance with the spring upgrade that wasn’t done by JG. RIght now the only thing I really needf money for is the selector plate. I totally broke that thing in half. So I’m SoL right now.

oh yea. how do I remove the flashhider? I did as the manual says and removed the 1.5 mm hex screw and it will not unscrew

  6. Hey,

I was Wondering if I should get a second battery for the JG G36C? I love the gun and can’t wait to get it. But i live in France and don’t want to spend 50$ on a battery when I can spend 30$ instead.

    Thanks,
Could you please respond A.S.A.P. so I can complete my order.

  7. Hello Coleman.

My friend has been running her G36C with the stock 8.4V 1100mAh battery for the last year without any problems. We play more milsim style games here in Canada and she’s not heavy on the trigger, if you plan on going through a lot of ammo though an extra battery might be something you’re looking for.

Heh I guess airsoft in France is expensive too, try ordering your battery from eHobby Asia. They have very competitive prices and are a great retailer. 🙂 Hope that helps!

  8. Hey!!

Erm, i am relatively new to airsoft.I need help in identifying a JG made Gun.My friend said it doesn’t have a logo or Trademark on the box.Is this true and if not, how do i find out if the airsoft gun IS a JG and not a Cheapo Gun?

    Thanks alot
    Mousey

  9. Hey.That’s correct, JG does not have any markings on its guns however it should be on the box. If you want to find out for sure, the only way I can think of is to tear down the mechbox. Sorry I can’t help you much there.

  10. Hello!

I just wonder how long time do you need to charge the battery?
And thx for the wondrefull Review!

  11. Hello Nikolai.

The answer to that question is, it depends. If you’re charging the battery completely drained iirc it takes about 3 hours but if there’s still a charge left then it’ll obviously be shorter. You’ll want to be careful when charging because the wall charger does not have an automatic cut off and it’s possible to overcharge.

When you’re charging the battery monitor it closely, when it gets warm to the touch it’s full. Whatever you do, do not let the battery charge to the point where it’s hot, if you do then you will have damaged your battery. A high quality charger with an automatic cut off when full is a worth while investment.

  12. Hay… Great review, just wondeing, I have firing problems with mine, can fire 15-20 on auto, and same on Semi, then the thing wont fire any more/.. diespite windin, high cap mag, and 0.12g balls… – any help on the likly causes would be great

  13. Hello richie.

Hmm that’s a tough one, when you pull the trigger you get nothing? Do you even get the click of the motor? How about when your mag is dry? Sounds like you may have an electrical problem too although it’s difficult to say without looking at it. Unless you know how to take the gun apart, I would take the gun to gun doc to get it checked out. Sorry about that, also 0.12g BBs are of low quality, you shouldn’t use those things in yoru gun. May damage the inner barrel or tear your hopup rubber.

  14. How do I remove the flashhider from the gun?
I unscrewed the little screw with a 1.5mm wrench, but the flashhider won’t twist off!

  15. Hey there Nickie.

You can’t remove the flash hider because JG puts loctite on the treads to keep it in place, what I do is put a screw driver between err arms and crank it off. 🙂

  16. Having fired more than 30,000 shots with my own JG G36C I have to say this: The only problem I had was with the G&P motor I had installed which, having a slightly shorter stem chewed its teeth (and took about 10,000 shots to do it!) because of poor contact with the gear. I hadn’t noticed that however and I took apart the whole gearbox. The surprising thing is that given the damage to the motor gear, the other gear (which it was turning, don’t remember the name)) had no damage at all.
A warning to all bushing upgraders: Some metal bushings are much fatter than the original nylon ones and the gears won’t fit in the gearbox after replacement. So, just to be on the safe side, it is best to get a set of gears together with the bushings or else you might be able to change the bushings. Apart from that the only real problem I’m having with the gun in general is the poor quality of the screws which tend to lose their “teeth” even with the slightest provocation. So be careful and tighten them just enough for them not coming out. (Oh, and any advice on where to find spare screws, mostly for the body of the gun would be welcome)

  17. Hello Marios.

Thanks for your update, my friend’s JG G36C has seen many games and I plan on writing one year evaluation on it shortly but it’s always great to hear what other people’s experiences are. 🙂

  18. Hey good review. It seems you had the same or similar electrical problem as I have with my newly bought JG MP5A4. I can pull the trigger all the way back and it doesn’t fire – I need to actually apply a good amount of pressure on the trigger before it’ll fire. I don’t get the delay you mentioned but it sounds similar…

I guess I’m going to have to take it apart, which is a bit daunting as I’ve never taken an AEG apart before, only a spring pistol which I ended up breaking! It seems I just need to fiddle with the metal connectors so they contact better, but I have to take the whole gun and gearbox apart which have so many tiny parts…. damn you Jing Gong!

  19. Just a couple days ago i got this gun and even though i have no clue about mech boxes or any of that stuff i love it. my friends and i have battles and i make them bleed with this gun.im glad i purchased this instead of the svd and your review helps reassure me that it is good. you seem to know what youre talking about so im gonna read your reviews more often. =)

  20. Review update:

As a weird occurence of (bad) luck, in the period of the last month, all three of my squad’s JG G36Cs broke down to the same cause: The plastic piece that holds the barrel/hop-up unit inside the outer barrel assembly broke down, rendering them inoperative. On all three. Maybe the plastic got a bit brittle because of the low ambient temperature (around 5 C) in which we were playing. The solution was to use some epoxy putty around the plastic piece, either holding the broken pieces into place (in the one case they weren’t lost) or replacing them alltogether by filling in the empty space (in the two other cases).

Having seen that I reckon this is a standard problem in JG G36C which will make its appearance somewhere in its service life. This should be a consideration if you are not willing to remedy the situation as we did. If you do have this problem, I strongly recommend the epoxy solution as it seems to have remedied the situation once and for all (now all three guns are operational without problem).

  21. Marios, was it the same issue that I bought up here? if it is, it’s something that happens to TM and CA G36s too although I’m surprised this issue rendered the your guns inoperable. The hopup spring should just push the hopup unit against the mechbox so your gun still should fire properly…

Do you have a picture? Thanks for the update! 🙂

  22. hey i have a question about the positive wire runing down the motor…im new to airsoft so im not realy sure how to fix the 2 second delay

  23. Erik.

Does your JG G36C have a delay when firing? The issue with my friend’s gun was with the wiring attached to the plates in the trigger mech, not at the motor section.

  24. Am a newbie in the airsoft field so I decided to buy the most popular aeg most airsofters acquire — the JG M4A1. But after reading your review on the JG G36C, I immediately bought one to serve as my secondary arm to complete my loadout. so far, after a month , i still have not encountered a problem on my G36C, except for the so-called “delay” experienced when firing. anyway, am bringing my M4A1 and G36C to a gunsmith this week to have both AEGs upgraded to increase the fps. now, to increase rate of fire, i tried installing the firefox 11.1V 1600MaH from my M4A1.

In the meantime, i’ll await your updated review on this cool aeg from Jing Gong. many thanks, sir colin!!

  25. hi again i got a new airsoft g36c it works perfect and no problems. but is to much grease inside a barrel bad? even the delay wasnt there. i bought it from jg but i didnt see there logo on the box or anything. do you know were i can find proof that the gun is from jg and not some weird cheap company.

  26. also should i use .2g bbs because the gun came with .2g bbs but it says i should use .6+gram bbs what do i use?

  27. what bbs should i use?

  28. hey guys does anyone know of aeg repair shops in ireland? i wana get the delay sorted out and also wanna get da gun upgraded(x2) roughly how much would dis cost? thanks that review is great to best one i seen yet anywere! lol :):)::):):):):):):):):):):)

  29. I just ordered this gun yesterday from airsplat and i can’t wait to get it, your review is great, Thanks

  30. Hi, I have a problem I would like a AEG gun for backyard play. But not like a weak gun, I’m looking for a gun that is 280 fps to 390. One that would last me a year or two. But I can’t decide between the FirePower FP8 and the JG G36c vr. 3. my price range is $75 to $19O. I am what so ever not able to open a gear box and make tweaks nor are my friends. Which one would you suggest?

  31. Hello Jason.

In this case I would definitely get a JG G36C, I’ve seen a few Firepower guns and their internals (at least with the guns I saw) were plastic. 🙁 Heh I recently picked up a JG G36C for my own use and man every time I handle one I’m impressed by its quality, and I had a TM G36C and CA G36 to compare with. 😉

  32. Hey colin,i’m thinking about buying this gun,and its an awesome gun.wheres the best place to get it besides ebay?

  33. Hey Dalton.

Sorry I’m located in Canada and up here pickings are slim… Since you’re in the US there are many suppliers which you can deal with, off the top of my head there’s Airsplat, Airsoft Extreme and Airsoft Atlanta. Or you can buy from retailers in HK like Redwolf and WGC but it may take a bit longer to get to you.

  34. Hey thanks, I’m more likly going to get this gun but I have three more Qs. Are the gear box changes hard because I’ve never done them before so I’m abit unsure? Will the still preform if I don’t do the changes? And last how long might this gun last? btw I live in Canada too, where did you get you and for what price?

  35. sorry for Q 2 I ment will the GUN still perform

  36. I see you’ve asked those questions on ASC too. 😉

Just keep in mind that in Canada the laws are much stricter on guns and things that look like guns so you’ll have to be careful where you use them. Tweaking the gearbox is not difficult but if it’s your first time you may have some trouble. Completely stock it’ll be perfectly adequate though, you shouldn’t have to go into it.

Err as for where to get it, the community up here in Canada is very strict and you’ll have to go through the age verification process on ASC, that will lead you to a bunch of retailers where you can buy the gun.

  37. thanks ill get this ill get this one ill check with ASC thanks see ya. P.S i was bored so i did it on ASC as well

  38. BTW do you have an acount on ASC?

  39. WAIT ONE MORE QUESTION on ASC when you click one international Retailers up at the top do all of those ship to canada?

  40. Yes I’m on ASC too my handle is Colin_S, very creative eh. International retailers will ship to Canada however whether you get it or not is a gamble. I hear that shipments from places like WGC, Redwolf, etc are flagged and checked automatically although I’m not sure.

Unfortunately if you want to play airsoft in Canada, you’ll have to be prepared to spend 2-3x for guns compared to other countries. Hell it’s better now though than before, even a year ago prices were double what they are now.

  41. Where did you get yours? and for what price? My ASC acount is Spatel, I got it from SPAce enTer and cancEL

  42. I got my JG G36C from a fellow on the ASC forum. Sorry about not telling you who directly but with airsoft already a grey market thing, the community has taken it upon itself to ensure buyers are of age.

  43. ok thanks

  44. well i got mine on ebay.but a good price of 116.00$

  45. thanks

  46. Thanks for the excellent review. I wasn’t sure of what to choose, the AK or the G36. now, I’ve decided to buy the G36. thanks again!

  47. Can u use .12 and .20 gram bb’s with the jg g36c cause that’s all I have and I don’t want to waste them or have to buy brand new bb’s

  48. Hi Trent.

Generally 0.12g BBs are quite low in quality, not recommended for AEGs. 0.2g is ok and recycling BBs is bad because they deform when they hit something and the dirty it picks up may damage your hopup rubber.

  49. @Colin

thank you so i that a no lol cause i just dont want to waste all the bb’s i have because i probably wont use my spring guns nymore unless i llet my friends use them

  50. @Colin
so is that a no on using them because i dontwant to waste my old ones
