I mean this is just funny… Mark Carney & the Liberals ran on being tough and willing to fight Trump and when I told people that Ian Bremmer who runs Eurasia Group that happens to be filled with Liberal insiders like Carney’s wife, Evan Solomon the new Minister for AI or Gerald Butts (former Trudeau friend and PMO staffer).
America’s largest trade partners, Mexico and Canada, are facing more significant trade pressures from the Trump administration, but the imbalance of power is such that they have no credible strategy to push back. Everyone understands they’ll have to accept Trump’s terms eventually; the only question is whether capitulation comes before or after a costly fight. Riding an 85% job approval, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has enough domestic political space to yield to Trump’s demands to keep Mexico in his good graces, as she is already doing. By contrast, Canadian leaders have a political incentive to put up a bigger fight because Trump’s threats toward Canada’s economy and sovereignty have sharply inflamed nationalist sentiment north of the border in the run-up to the April 28 elections. However, I expect Ottawa will quietly fold shortly after the vote to ensure that ongoing relations with the US remain functional.

Bold emphasis my own, anyway looks like Carney has done just that.
Canada has effectively suspended almost all of its retaliatory tariffs on U.S. products, tamping down inflation risks and improving its growth outlook, according to Oxford Economics.

PM Carney told us during the election that Canada’s old relationship with America is over, Look I understand the need to be pragmatic, the US is next door and a huge market, they’ll always be our largest market and we’ll consume a lot of their goods but then say that. It’s what I hate about politicians, saying one thing and doing the opposite… For someone who loves to say they’re not a politician the PM certainly learns the bad political habits quickly.
My next question if we’re suspending our tariffs what are we getting in return? Unfortunately the answer to that is nothing, exactly what Bremmer said but elbows up right…
