Mark dropped his MP5 on Sunday for me to look at, it’s been having a feeding problem since pretty much the day I sold it to him (although it never happened to me). He’s not too bothered by it but it sure does bug the hell out of me.
Anyway after a bit of tinkering I think I’ve isolated the issue to the gun’s hopup mechanism. I noticed that the plastic lever that holds the hopup in place no longer works and the hopup and barrel get separated by a few millimeters. A quick mod with electrical tape solved that issue and now the gun fires just fine on full auto, it doesn’t jam even one shot.
It might be crude but it works quite well. 😉 I borrowed the idea from Mark who uses some electrical tape to secure another area. Unfortunately the gun still jams up on semi and solving that issue will be much harder.
The issue is the BB gets stuck on something inside the hopup unit and requires a lot of force to push it through. It’s as if the diameter of the BB is too large all of a sudden… I don’t have a picture of that right now but will take one later. I’m dropping by ASC Armoury tonight perhaps Miles or Carl will have some suggestions, they always have a wealth of information.
If you have any suggestions, I’m all ears.
Dec 20th edit: Oh for any gunsmiths out there, I just realized that the screws for the hopup were installed the wrong way. In any case they’re stripped if I couldn’t tell it was backwards. Talked to Carl and Bartek yesterday at ASC and they gave me some ideas but unfortunately none of them panned out. I guess I’ll have to figure this one out myself, when I do I’ll post the fix.
ICS MP5A4 incoming!
Heh before my parents get mad at me THIS GUN ONLY COST ME $85! Heh there is a catch the part on the metal receiver that holes the cocking tube back is broken but replacing that is easy and cheap. 😉
Aside from the broken receiver the gun looks to be in excellent shape. Maggie is not pleased that I picked up another AEG but says the price is right. 😀 I’ll be getting it in later in the week, will take pictures of the thing then.
See getting more guns always feels good. About time you got another!
