On Sunday Mark, Charlene and I went to Wasaga for a field game and it was totally awesome. Temperatures were in the -2 to -5C range but with the sun and little wind, we couldn’t have asked for better. On average the playing field was covered with 10 cm of snow with up to 50 cm in some places. It’s not as tiring as it sounds though since there was a layer of ice on top, we could essentially walk on top of the snow for the most part. In the afternoon the warmer temperatures melted the ice so moving around was more difficult and tiring.
For the first time in a long time, neither Mark or I had any gun problems which was a nice change. Jason wasn’t as lucky and his M4 CQB Seal gave him a ton of trouble, so much so he packed it away before the game even started. Later he lost a selector switch for his MP5K and I think a shotgun shell for his TM M3 Shorty.
The teams were split up into two, digital VS analog so Charlene and I had a little bet on who could kill Mark the most. 😉 We both killed him twice however he was able to hit her once.
The first time I killed Mark, him and Jim were hunkered down in a bunker. Working with Jason we were able to get to the side of the bunker. Jason was using a short range weapon so it was up to me to lay down cover fire while he advanced. When he got into cover, it was my turn to move but since I was far back I could move around pretty easily without the worry of getting hit.
Jason was able to sneak right up to the side of the bunker but unfortunately when he turned to take both guys out, his gun jammed so he was shot pretty quickly. Neither Mark or Jim could move because I was laying down fire into the bunker so it was my time to clear it out. Moving between cover, I shot Mark and could see him laying down but at the time I didn’t know that Jim was using Mark’s body as cover. When I was within about ~5 meters of the bunker, Jim popped up with his pistol and called mercy. Grr that was a bit cheap but Jim is a good guy and I’m not one to argue about mercy so I accepted.
About an hour later the digital team decided to assault our base. I could hear Charlene and Jason yelling for support so I ran towards the Blackhawk town map to reinforce them. A few members of the Flecktarn also came along and we were able to repel digital flank attack. We were lucky because our shots were wind assisted so we had greater range.
During the same attack working with Jason, we were able to reach a very forward position. Jason had moved to cover directly in front of the digital team and they were pre occupied at firing at him. That allowed me to sneak up close to their left and I was able to take out the three gunners closest to Jason. Heh knowing that Mark was the medic, I simply waited for the big guy to run and revive his teammates and low and behold he arrived. Taking him and the guys he revived was easy, they had absolutely no cover from where I was hiding. 🙂
After lunch the teams reversed roles and analog was able to triumph again. 😀 It was faster this time, it only took us about an hour and a half before we took over the digital base completely. The day wrapped up with a simple attack and defend scenario, by that time though the warmer weather had melted the icy layer on top of the snow so moving around was difficult.
Sorry there are no action shots but here are a few group shots at the end of the day.
Heh hope the third one doesn’t get Jason in trouble with Jessie… 😉 I was also testing out a plain OD tactical vest and I have to say it was much easier to use and lighter than my Phantom CMS-PC molle vest. I think I’ll use this thing more often from now on, it’s not just lighter, it’s also less bulky so it’s easier to move around in.
Another great game at Wasaga and I’m looking forward to the next game on April 1st. Maggie is interested in playing that game weather pending of course and Jessie said she’ll come out to play if Maggie is in which is great. 🙂
