Yay new toys!

A few weeks ago I bought some Double Tap Tactical Magpul PTW PMags but couldn’t get them to work properly in my guns for some reason. They just wouldn’t feed in either of my two PTWs, after fussing around with them for a bit I gave up and bought some Systema Magpul PTW PMags.

I don’t think I’ll have time to play with the mags till the weekend as I’m going to be busy all week. I’ll update my progress then and perhaps with a small review. πŸ˜‰ Oh I also bought another AI impact grenade which came in today woo!

Hehe toys!

Man was it windy, anyway I dropped by Chris & Tom’s office to pick up a FCC Gen 2.5 PTW motor for my 2012 PTW and Brayden’s ACOG. πŸ™‚

I’m happy I got the motor but this ACOG is freaking cool! It’s real so it has the illuminated chevron sight and man the optic is so clear! It was a great deal too, gotta love teammate sales… Anyway I’ll pass it to Bray on the weekend after I’m finished drooling on it, though I’ll admit it’s not as cool as his Elcan Spectre DR.

What BS!

Last night the boys and I went to Ultimate Airsoft to play, it’s been a while so some of us figured why not. There was a large crowd at UA, I guestimate that there were at least 40 people at the height of it so the UA staff divided the people into groups A & B and we rotated having access on the field. We were part of group B and to make things fair the ref split us up between the walk ons which was fine by us. I think we played 6 or 7 games and they were all great, these were the types of games where if you get shot you think “damn that was nice” and congratulated your opponents after the game.

At the end of the night management decided to put both groups together for one last big game and that’s where things fell apart. I’ve always had problems getting the guys from Pacific Recon (they were in group A) to acknowledge hits, whether it be at UA, Flag Raiders, TTAC3 or where ever and knew it probably wouldn’t end well and yeah I was right… It wasn’t just us, a few guys from the 1st Rangers who were playing with us (good guys, played for years with them) also had a ton of problems. Non calls were one thing, Chris even had a propane tank thrown at him at one point!

The blatent cheating was so bad a few of us just walked off the field since it wasn’t worth it. I was next to Tom when he tried to get one of the PR members to go with him and talk to the ref to which he replied “I’m not talking to the ref” and ran away. If there is no honour in airsoft then it’s not worth playing.

It’s too bad because we got along great with the founders of the team but they don’t play much now and it’s gone down hill… I guess that shouldn’t be a surprise when the only criteria to join the team is that you’re Filipino… Please note I’m not trying to paint all Filipino players with the same brush, there are plenty that play fair (hell we have a couple on the team, who helped PR get off the ground) but this group is definitely making all of them look bad.

I posted my thoughts in a constructive manner on Airsoft Canada and a few guys who were running in my group posted video evidence of the BS we had to put up with. We’re suppose to be playing for fun, what’s the point when the other side cheats and ruins it for everyone…

Blasty toys…

So over the weekend I bought a 10 used DTT Systema PTW PMags for $250 which was a good price. Initially I wanted all 10 for myself but I know Jason was looking for some too so I ended up splitting it up and giving him 4 while I kept 6. Have to say there is a noticeable weight difference between the PMags and regular Systema mags, these new ones are so light it’s almost like cheating lol… They have Vanaras internals so they have no problems keeping my guns fed and happy. πŸ™‚

On Wednesday my Surefire SR07-D-IT dual switch remote came in as well and man it’s so cool! Allows me to operate my Surefire Scout & AN/PEQ-15 with one switch which makes things a lot more efficient. I hated having two switches so yeah this is a big improvement.

Yeah my 2012 PTW looks pretty darn good right now. πŸ˜‰ The sights (both BUIS and optic) are not real but it’s only a matter of time before I swap them out for something legit… πŸ˜‰ Yeah I am jonsing to play, too bad UA is having a lot of problems these days.

Can’t we just have fun…

I love playing airsoft, it’s such a fun game but I have to admit that over the last couple of years I’m enjoying it less and less. It coincides with the drop in price of airsoft guns (due first to loop holes in the laws, then the regulations changing), at first I thought it’d be a good thing as it would open up airsoft to a larger community of players which I had hoped that would lead to a larger variety of games but instead what we have are a bunch of hot head divas along with a shit load of politics…

Perhaps the new players haven’t matured yet past basic run and gun skirmishes, now that there’s anything wrong with those games but after a while mindless mayhem gets a bit boring. Also along with the influx of new players are cheaters, god I haven’t seen so many cheaters in airsoft before and it’s getting worse. I mean non calls happen and we’re all guilty of not calling hits, I understand that but the blatant cheating is getting out of hand. It’s no longer lone players but groups which totally sucks the fun out of the game. Luckily this primarily seems to be a problem in local skirmishes and hasn’t affected mil sims yet but it’s getting pretty bad.

If it weren’t for the guys on the team I think I would have quit airsoft by now because frankly I don’t need this bull shit in my life. I get enough politics at work, I don’t need it in my hobby either. Even so with that said I think I’m going to branch into other areas to fill my time as airsoft is leaving me more and more frustrated.

PVS-14 is alive!!!

So this evening I dropped by Chris’ place to pick up the new battery housing for my PVS-14 and woo, it’s alive!!! Oh I can’t tell you how much it sucked that my NVD was down but whatever it’s up now and that’s all that matters. I can walk around my house in the dark again driving Maggie crazy. πŸ˜‰

PVS-14_1PVS-14_2PVS-14_3

I’m also happy I have the newer one battery housing instead of the two battery version as the knob battery cap is a lot more secure than the clip thing from the two battery version. My PVS-14 supports automatic brightness control so the gain knob does nothing but meh that’s not a big deal, I prefer auto vs manual adjustment anyway (having used a teammate’s manual gain version). I also got Chris to pick up an Wilcox Ops-core Fast Base Jump lanyard, I still want to upgrade my retention setup but this will help keep my NV save for now.

God I want to game bad now! πŸ˜€

Unbelievable

So last night the guys and I hit Ultimate Airsoft, the refs allowed us to play together which was nice (even though a few of the teammates didn’t get the memo on to wear Woodland and showed up in MC ;)) anyway while the games were fun, there was this one incident I absolutely have to rant about.

I’m going to be frank I hate playing against Filipino players. I don’t know how they play airsoft in the Philippines but here in Southern Ontario there’s an issue with some calling hits. As a regular host of airsoft games, I talk to a lot of the other hosts and we’re in agreement that there are issues and it’s so bad that a few have banned the Filipino team (only criteria to join is to be Filipino) from their games altogether.

Anyway last night, I was in The Hurt Locker portion of the map with the rest of my guys defending it as it was our task. I took up a line where I get to shoot people from the side as they come in (and engage what’s in front of them, it was a trap) anyway this one player walks at a slow pace by, I shoot him with the 40mm grenade as well as with my AEG at ~3′ (we play no mercy), he turns then shoots at me. About 5 seconds later he walks up to me and starts to berate me about calling my hits, now I freely admit that I don’t back down when challenged especially after having all types of issues with this individual throughout the night so I tell him he should take his own advice in a not so nice manner and mention the many blatant disregards of hits from myself and others (Chris witnessed another 40mm shot that he disregarded). I guess he didn’t like my tone because he then walked up to me and bumped me in the chest.

Arguing about hits, well it happens I try not to call other peoples hits on the field because sometimes people just don’t feel or hear them which is fair enough. This loser and his friends were down right cheaters and now he has the nerve to get physical?

We both walk off the field and it happens that our gear is next to each other but I don’t care, I tell my teammates what happen and again now in the safe zone this guy wants to get into a fight. Fine, it’s been a while since I’ve been in a fight but I’m not afraid and I know the type that can pretend to be all tough… I could have handled it better on my end but fuck that guy, he started it and I don’t put up with bull shit.

I enjoy playing at Ultimate Airosft however if they’re going to allow these types of players I’m going to have to reconsider going there in the future. It’s not fun when people cheat so openly yet are willing to call other people out… I die like 10 times a game because most of the games we play have unlimited respawns.

LOL on the way home I was telling Jason, I can’t wait to buy the Porsche 911… I’ll drive it there, kick his team’s ass in CQB then show that I kick their asses in real life too. πŸ˜‰

All complete!

So today the 6 pin LEMO converter came in and woo hoo my new radio setup is complete!

It wasn’t cheap but it’s well worth it, though if I could do it again, I’d get the MSA Sordin Supreme Pro-X, yeah it’s double the price but then no having to find the stupid converter lol… Anyway here’s how my new radio setup looks like.

I’m going to have to do something about the red LED but thank god it’s not as bright as the LEDs on the Wouxun. I won’t really have a chance to test out my new set up till next year but lol if this doesn’t make me happy then perhaps I’m out of options. πŸ˜‰

Pieces two & three…

So I happened to be sick today (I really am) and woo I got two more deliveries. πŸ™‚

The first is a Motorola XTS 3000 UHF radio, I haven’t been happy with the Wouxun I picked up two years ago so hopefully something like this will suit my needs… A few of the guys already have these Motorola radios (A couple have the XTS 3000 & XTS 2500) and I’m glad that I have something that will be compatible with what they’re running, woo digital transmissions all the way. Next is the Nexus U94 PTT, it’s um pretty used so cosmetically there are lots of scratches but that’s not something that bothers me.

All I’m waiting for now is the LEMO 6 pin converter for the MSA Sordin and my new radio setup will be complete! Yes, slowly but surely I am getting ready for next year’s mil sim season.

Piece one…

So the first piece of my new radio setup came, the MSA Sordin Supreme Pro. πŸ™‚

Hehe little B approves! πŸ˜‰ The MSA Sordin Supreme Pro ear muffs provide active hearing protection while enhancing ambient sounds. What that means is if the sound goes up higher than a certain dB (don’t remember what the value is), the headset automatically muffles the noise. When it’s below the dB cut off, all sounds are enhanced which improve hearing.

Anyway when the other pieces come, I’ll post about them but ya these things are freaking cool!
