Modified Blaster

For the last 4 years or so I’ve been running my primary Systema PTW in the CQBR form factor, I like the shorter version because it’s easier to maneuver with and ballistics in airsoft between the CQBR and M4 length barrels is negligible. Anyway I adopted the older Mod 0 version of the MK18 because I liked the look but recently felt it was time for a change. Since Christmas is around the corner, I asked Maggie to buy me a Madbull Daniel Defense MK18 RIS II rail and a Madbull a low profile DD gas block. I wanted to get a real Daniel Defense MK18 rail in DE but it’s pretty much sold out everywhere and the black version will not do so I got the repro version… for now maybe. πŸ˜‰ She agreed and allowed me to get my presents early so I dropped by Duy’s place in the afternoon to pick up the goodies.

I’m happy to report that the nut that comes with the Madbull Daniel Defense MK18 rail is compatible with the Systema PTW upper threadings. πŸ™‚ Still for the plate that goes against the receiver I had to drill out a hole for the gas tube and I had to modify the same plate a bit at the bottom which allows the gun to pivot at the front pin. The rail is designed for regular airsoft guns which are not identical to real steel specifications but all in all the mods only took me about 2 hours. πŸ™‚

It’s not a complete MK18 Mod 1 gun yet and I don’t know if I’m going to go that route completely. I have a Troy front sight and I’m thinking of getting an Aimpoint T1 Micro (I want a real one :)) instead of an EOTech 553 but I’ll worry about that later… If I can score a good deal on a real DD MK18 RIS 2 rail I’ll pick one up later too.

My old KAC RIS (real) will go on my M4A1 backup PTW and I’ll keep that gun with the more classical look.

Heh finally on impulse, I also purchased a WE 416 GBBR upper and the plan is to modify it so it works with my PTWs. πŸ™‚ If it doesn’t work meh it was only $140 but if it does then woo I got a 416 PTW!!! πŸ˜€

Tis the season

So on Friday the team had its annual Christmas dinner at TTAC3 and it was great. πŸ™‚ I truly enjoy the social aspect of airsoft more than shooting at people and the guys (and gals) that we’ve surrounded ourselves with are all first class. I consider every one of them my friend and feel fortunate that we have such an awesome group of like minded individuals who just like to hang out together. This year the group voted to for Thai food so Phil offered up his services and I went to pick up dinner with Jason at around 7:30PM.

I believe there were 25 of us (21 team members and a few gfs/wives) and man the food disappeared so fast! Most of the night was spent chilling and chatting, lol a few of the guys ripped on Mario for not asking Christine out yet, could tell he was uncomfortable but it was the ass kicking he needed. πŸ˜‰ Most of the night, I just wandered to the various groups chiming in with my opinion without being asked. πŸ˜‰

We took a team photo though unfortunately missing is our Ottawa representative Scotty, Stephen (issues came up) and Phil (he had to tend to his restaurant).

I can’t remember the last time there were so many of us together all at once, it was wonderful and I loved every minute of it! I just wish we could play together as a group more often instead of always being split up to keep things “fair”.

Jason and I split at around 11:30PM, lol neither of us wanted to stay late as our kids wake up early no matter what time we get into bed right… Before I left, for fun (and perhaps because he had a lot to drink), Jeremy picked me up and kind of threw me onto the mat. LOL I kept him in my guard though in case he wanted to try some funny business but it was just jokes and pretty damn awesome.

I love those guys, we’re all such great friends and supporters of each other and it’s awesome.

No longer collecting…

So over the weekend I decided that I’m no longer going to collect airsoft guns. I’m not getting out of the hobby but I don’t feel the urge to keep a large arsenal anymore, I’ve had a large collection for around 6 years now and I think at my height I had just over 30 guns but I’m going to shift focus. Most of my gear is real already but I’ll spend some money optimizing what I’m actually using on the field as that’ll make me a more effective player on the field.

The pruning has already started, on Friday I gave Mario his KWA MP7A1 back (we give each other guns every now and then when we’re not using them), sold my real EOTech 551 and ICS AK74M on Saturday and also am trying to sell the CA MP5 A5 and CA P90 RDS. I’ll probably list a few more guns on Airsoft Canada soon though I don’t know what else I want to get rid of…

Even though I’m lightening the collection, I’ll still probably have about 15 or airsoft weapons as I love my pistols too much but ya I’m going even further with quality over quantity now. πŸ™‚

Sore!

What a great Saturday… The morning started off slow but we went out for lunch, I had won ton noodles from a local food court which are my favorite in Scarborough. πŸ™‚ While Maggie & her mom were still eating, I ducked out for a hair cut and after I was done it was Brandon’s turn. As expected he cried, cried and cried a lot, it was kind of cute but at the same time sad. I wish I could save him but we put off cutting his hair for over 3 weeks now and it was pretty long.

Later after B’s nap in the afternoon Jason, Jessie & Logan came over to have a play date with Brandon. At first the kids were pretty hostile towards each other as they were competing for the same toys. After dinner though they loosened up and played together pretty well. Logan talks a lot more than Brandon does and it was cute to watch them interact and play with the trains together. At certain times it sounded like they were having some high pitched baby voice conversations and there were a lot of smiles and laughs.

Jason and I left after dinner to meet the guys at Ultimate Airsoft, Chris was bringing his gf Keiko to play her first game and a bunch of us decided to go to support her. We arrived at around 6:15PM, Stephen was there and Mario, Jeremy 1 & Jeremy 2 showed up about 10 minutes later. The first few skirmishes we played, we dominated so badly that the ref split us up to be more fair. The game was more balanced afterwards and everyone had a pretty good time. As the night progressed Eric showed up, just after we were talking smack about Chris, he shows up with Keiko and Qlong. I asked the ref to allow us to play together as we rarely get to play together these days and lol it was another slaughter (even though the teams had an even number of players ;))

There was a small incident where one of the opposing players was pretty slow to call shots so as good airsofters we fired for effect. He complained and I told him that we’re playing a game where we’re shooting projectiles at each other, f you don’t want to get shot up then the easy option is not to play. Later Jason and I were clearing out the hurt locker area and nailed him quite a bit, again though he was slow to acknowledge his hit and just stood in the way afterwards. He remarked that we almost hit him in the balls to which I replied in a not so nice manner to get out of the way.

The last game of the night was a zombie game and while I had fun, I also ran into a low door frame that knocked my PVS-14 off. πŸ™ It hit the ground and broke at the battery housing but luckily the tube is still working. Chris will help me get a new housing but sigh it sucks and now my precious NV is down so I can’t walk around in the dark at home. Good thing the mil sims are all done, by the start of the outdoor season I will be good to go.

Today well is still ongoing, I watched the last race of the 2012 F1 season at Interlagos Brazil and man it was super exciting. Things didn’t end well for my favorite driver, Lewis Hamilton as he was involved with a race incident (not his fault) that disabled his car sigh he’s had some terrible reliability/luck issues this year and had things gone his way he would have been challenging for the driver’s championship.

I’ll figure things out for the rest of the day, I’m pretty sore from the game as I pushed pretty hard. I guess I’ll just play with Brandon the rest day and call it early as I’m tired. πŸ™‚

What a beautiful Nov weekend

So let’s start at the beginning shall we…

On Saturday morning Cindy called and told Maggie she’s going to drop by with about 20 minutes notice, I was kind of peeved at that because I hate surprise drop ins but whatever. I asked Maggie if that meant we were going to lunch, while she assured me we were not I knew we it would happen. At around 12PM they decided to go for lunch (as I predicted) and Maggie seemed surprised that all the near by restaurants were busy and would take a long time to seat a party of 8. We lucked out at the second restaurant, it was a dim sum place and it only took about 15 minutes to get us seated.

A bit later in the afternoon I left home to pick up Jason & Mario so we could go play airsoft at UA and when we arrived at around 3-3:30PM, it was already quite busy. There were lots of newbs so it was pretty easy hunting over all and as the day progressed more and more people showed up. I got to grenade countless people with the Madbull AGX attached to my PTW CQBR and that was a lot of fun. I was testing Jason’s lower and it performed flawlessly for me, I went through over a thousand rounds so hopefully it’s good once and for all. Sigh for such an expensive gun you figure Systema would get its motors right, if it goes down again I’m going to tell him to just get a FCC like Stephen.

The Spanish guys that Mario and I slaughtered a few weeks ago showed up later and as usual when they were hit they complained like there was no tomorrow… I try very hard never to complain about being shot (even if I get hit after I’m dead) as we’re playing a game where we’re shooting projectiles at each other. It’s also not my fault that they don’t know how to pie the corner properly but whatever I enjoyed killing them.

At around 7:30PM the owners turned off the lights so the three of us busted out our PVS-14s though it wasn’t a huge advantage because there were too many people so we couldn’t stalk. Still I found it a bit frustrating/comical when I was shooting one of the Spanish guys (I know who they are based on their gear) while he was engaging someone else and not in cover from my angle yet wasn’t calling the shots. Not only could I see him clearly with the PVS-14, when I had him lit up with my PEQ box and could see the BBs bounce off him his body and hands (he shook his hands after being shot)…

We left shortly afterwards, even though we were not at UA long, the games are always fast and action packed so it’s quite a work out.

On Sunday the weather was awesome so I took advantage of it and cleaned out my car, mowed the lawn for the last time in 2012 and raked the leaves. I also played with Brandon a lot, hehe I just love how sweet his voice is but then again all young children have cute high pitched voices.

Other than that I didn’t do anything else but relax which was very nice, heh too bad I have to go back to work today as I wouldn’t mind another day to be lazy. πŸ˜‰

New Blaster

Even though I picked up a LBT 6094B vest for my birthday, over the weekend Maggie was encouraging me to buy a new gun and well temptation got the better of me. πŸ˜‰

On Saturday afternoon I went to Toronto Airsoft and purchased a Madbull AGX grenade launcher. Yes I know I’ve had many grenade launchers in the past but there was always something about RIS mounted M203s that I never like, I guess it’s because a real version doesn’t exist and finding a barrel mounted M203 in Canada is difficult. The AGX is RIS mounted but it’s as close to the M320 as it gets for now and the Iron Airsoft M320 is not available in Canada yet. May replace the AGX with that later but it’s not something I’m concerned about at the moment.

Anyway with the outdoor season wrapping up, I figure some extra firepower wouldn’t hurt in CQB situations though now I need more 40mm grenades lol. My PTW CQBR is now freaking heavy but that’s alright indoor games are always fast so it’s not like I have to lug it a great distance. Can’t wait to use it, will probably go to Ultimate Airsoft this coming weekend. πŸ™‚

Sore ankles

Brandon was sick yet again over the weekend so we didn’t do too much. On Saturday, I took care of the little guy while Maggie and her mom went out to go grocery shopping. In the afternoon we just hung around the house as it was raining and pretty miserable. Maggie bought this Chinese internet TV service (kind of like Netflix) and her mom has been addicted to this soap opera. LOL once I get her computer hooked up, I think I may move that box to her computer so she can watch that so we can use the TV.

On Sunday I went to play airsoft, Jason was hosting a newbie game for some of his coworkers so I went to play and give him some support. I got into a bit of an argument with Shawn in the middle of the day, we were not suppose to slaughter the newbs and I felt he being unsportsmanlike. I felt bad a bit later, I understand he doesn’t get to play much but still it’s not how I would have handled things. Oh well it happens and friends can have disagreements right.

At around 3PM my PTW was giving me some issues so I called it a day. LOL perhaps it’s not a good idea to disassemble the hop up to rebuild the night before a game. πŸ˜‰ Oh well I’ll figure it out later and wasn’t in the mood to play with it when I got home. On a more positive note the LBT 6094B was great and was super comfy all game.

Played with little B the rest of the day and watched The Walking Dead with Maggie at 9PM. God that show had a lot of promise but it’s getting so damn stupid. Am I the only one who wants Carl to die?

Anyway back to the grind and it’s freaking busy at work!

LBT 6094 loadout

So a couple of days ago I received my new LBT 6094B vest and you can imagine I was dying to transfer my load out from my repro vest. Well it has been done and here it is!

The only piece of repro gear left is the Flyye admin pouch, I was thinking about replacing it with an Eagle but meh it’s not high in the priority list. I absolutely love that even though my vest is loaded up pretty well (4 mags, 3 grenades, 2 smoke grenades, first aid kit, 3L hydration, radio, PVS-14, etc), it’s not bulky at all (unlike when I was wearing the CIRAS or Wasatch) and I can play CQB with it pretty effectively. Um well I should be able to, I used the TMC 6094A with the same load out so there’s no reason the LBT would be any worse.

The shoulder pads on the LBT are much more comfortable and I can’t wait to test it on Oct 21st when I play Jason’s n00b game at Ultimate Airsoft. πŸ™‚ Sigh if it were in Coyote Brown it’d be better but tan works and it’s real.

Happy Birthday to me in Oct?!?

A couple of weeks ago, I told Maggie that I wanted to order a real LBT 6094 vest for my birthday (on Nov 17th) to replace my repro TMC 6094A, I love the form factor and figured why not… She agreed to let me get it so I ordered one directly from LBT. Earlier in the year Jason ordered a real LBT 6094A and it took two months for him to receive it so I figure if I ordered my vest at the end of Sept, I may get it in time for my special day. πŸ˜‰

Well when I got home yesterday, low and behold my vest arrived! πŸ˜€ Along with a few things I ordered from eHobby too…

I decided to get the LBT 6094B as I wanted the ability to put four mag pouches up front instead of 3 but I noticed I also screwed up and ordered the tan version instead of the coyote brown. πŸ™ Ahh well it’s a real vest and once it’s a bit dirty it’ll be darker. Also pictured is my new Xcoretech airsoft chrony, my Guarder died a couple of years ago and I’ve never been happy with the Madbull chronies… Hopefully this is the last one I have to buy.

Toys are fun, too bad I have to go back to work tomorrow lol!

Brandon is home!!!

Sigh the last day of a long weekend is always bitter sweet… This morning I dropped by Jason’s place for a very quick drop off/pick up, I gave him back his 07 PTW lower and picked up my old foam plates and repro mag shingles for another project I have on the way. Later I cleaned the house up a bit in preparation for Brandon’s return today and Maggie and her mom’s return tomorrow.

Afterwards I decided to edit some of the videos that I took over the weekend and to my horror, it looks like I didn’t copy over the data from my Contour HD properly from Saturday’s game. πŸ™ I could have sworn I saved a copy onto my computer but when I checked the folder this morning, nothing was there. Pretty bummed out about that because there were some great action footage, I also tried undelete software on the memory card to no avail. Here are some videos from Sunday’s game, not as much action as it was mainly games with Mario and I, for some reason I didn’t record the footage of us kicking the Spanish group’s ass…

I picked up Brandon at 3PM today and man I can’t tell you how good it felt knowing I can bring him home. When I opened the door to my parents house, from about 20′ away I see Brandon yell “Daddy!” and he ran as quickly as he can towards me. I should have known that would be his reaction and recorded it on my Blackberry, damn what was I thinking…

Anyway he’s home safe and sound, I’m so happy to have him running around again. While I did enjoy my freedom over the weekend, I definitely missed the little guy very much. I miss Maggie too but I know she’ll be back tomorrow so it’s alright.

Back to the grind, trying to enjoy the last hours of my long weekend.
