So sore but so worth it!

So this past weekend I went a two day rifle class hosted by WGT Consulting at the Lower Trent Valley Fish & Game Club and it was amazing.  Well to be fair for much of the two days I shot very poorly, not sure why but I had a hard time hitting a 6″ circle with my Daniel Defense MK18 carbine even up close at like 7 yards, the shots would go all over the place.  When more pressure was applied by the instructors or when we were timed or had our friendly end of day competitions something just clicked and then I’d shoot well.  They said when there was no pressure I had too much time to think, perhaps I did. 😉

I didn’t take any pictures or videos from the first day, we worked a lot of stoppage drills and I enjoyed it quite a bit.  The instructors with military experience was saying how important it was to be able to identify and clear a stoppage in a quick manner, when the bullets are flying and your gun is down, you need to get it up ASAP. I had a lot of problems with my AR, I was using the new STAG NiB BCG in my MK18 and I guess (don’t use untested stuff in a class) I need to break it in a bit because it certainly didn’t work well with the rifle, anyway swap the old Daniel Defense BCG in its place and the gun was running perfectly. I’d still like to use the STAG BCG since nickle boron stuff is easier to clean so I’ll do that at Silverdale.

After the class on the first day I met up with Dan, Rob, Ray & Taylor for dinner where we chatted about guns in general and politics (my favorite topic lol).  Some of the guys went out we finally left the restaurant at 9:30pm but I was tired and went to the hotel to unwind and rest for the next day and I’m sure glad I did because we did more advanced stuff.  Movement, turns, etc it was a lot of fun and it all culminated with an end of day friendly competition.

Hehe I’m happy to report that I won with a score of 23/25 hits and had the fastest time too!  I guess when the pressure is on, I react well and am able to hit what I want!  The picture of me holding the multicam hat and WGT Consulting patch was the prize and it’s one that I’m proud of. 🙂

Got home yesterday just before 8PM and it was so nice to see the family, I missed them very much even though it was just a weekend.  Had a great time, can’t wait for the next one!

Toys!

Hehe was looking forward to coming home today because I knew I might be able to get a few toys.  Canada Post delivers to my house just after 5:30pm typically so I made sure I was home to receive my Gen 4 Glock 19 and Stag Arms nickel boron coated BCG.

I picked up the Glock 19 used a couple of weeks back because I like the smaller form factor and because it was a great deal with 10 magazines.  I’m also happy to report that the trigger on this thing is much nicer than on my Glock 17, not as good as the HK SFP9 but not as mushy as the bigger Glock.  Last weekend I also ordered a Stag Arms M16 profile nickel boron coated BCG and it’s sweet.  I’ll put it in the DD MK18 and keep the DD BCG as a spare if this works out, nickel boron is easier to clean and has a natural lubricity blah blah blah, it’s suppose to be better. 🙂

Thinking about going to the range again this weekend but I have a 2 day rifle class next weekend so maybe I’ll just skip it and spend some time with the family, it’s all good. 😀

New plates!

So today I picked up a new set of Polyethelene level 3 plates!

I already have a set of ceramic level 4 plates but these are much lighter and durable so when I’m running and gunning with these things on it’ll be easier. 😀

I’m here. :)

Yes I’m alive and life is great.  I’ve just been a bit busy with work and very lazy in the after hours to post updates, I’ll try to be better at that.  In any case to my favorite gun store Tenda Canada had some 9mm 147 grain hollow point ammo for sale, the price was pretty much the same as the FMJ stuff I shoot so I picked up 5 boxes. 😀

Haha obviously you can’t shoot someone with this stuff so it’s not for “personal protection”, just something different to try at the range next time I’m out. While I love that place, it’s a curse to have it so close to home!

Carbine Class

So today I attended a carbine class hosted by WGT Consulting and it was a lot of fun.  A few airsofters I know attended too, Duffman & Zach from GOA while Robo Murray was the assistant instructor for the course.  The Lower Trent Fish Club & Game Club is a nice range and with membership only $200, I’m thinking about joining it as well.

I’m not sure what the wooden shooting boards are officially called but it was certainly interesting to use and forced everyone to move into unconventional shooting positions!  Not something I practice so it was definitely very odd but I learnt to adjust as I went along. The day started off slow but ended with a flurry of action and it’s safe to say I was a happy participant and am looking forward to the next class!

It’s also nice the club is only 2 hours away instead of 4 like with Rock Cut lol.

Getting ready!

This is a trend that I adopted from playing airsoft, typically a week before an event I start prepping my gear to ensure that everything is proper.  I checked out my LBT 6094B plate carrier and it’s been set up almost exactly the same for the last 5 years, the only thing I did was remove the zip ties that will be useless & glow sticks and routed the hydration tube through the other shoulder pad.  Sigh the level 4 ceramic plates are heavy and while my stamina is ok, I think my ass is going to be kicked hard.

I did reconfigure my first line belt, I’ve cut down the medical supplies and simply only a single IFAK (infantry first aid kit, just an example but mine is essentially the same).  The way I look at it, if I ever do have to deal with a gun shot wound it’d be a freak range accident and not because people are actually shooting at each other.  That allowed me to put a single pistol mag pouch on the right side (when I shoot pistol support hand) and two AR-15 mags on my left.

LOL obviously neither of the gun or mags are loaded, this was just to see how everything felt and I think it’s going to be a good one.  I think down the line I’m going to invest in a good 2 point sling, the Magpul MS3 is not bad but I think there are better slings on the market.

The weekend itself was relaxing though uneventful so there’s really nothing to write about there, I’m just excited for my class and hope the work week goes quickly. 😀

Good day!

So today is the last Friday of the month I took off and I spent it with some good friends.  After dropping Brandon off at school, I went to pick up Mario from the subway station and we hung around here for a bit.  Slinky was cute and playful and after a little bit we went to Tenda to see some goodies.  I bought 500 rounds of 22LR CCI Mini Mags and two metal ammo cans, I prefer them for storage over the plastic containers.

For lunch we met with Stephen at Asian Legend, it was fun and we chatted about old times for about an hour and a half.  For some reason much of the food had those Chinese mushrooms (yuck) so that kind of spoiled things for me but at least the company was good. I dropped Mario off in the early afternoon went to the post office close to home and picked up woo the Kimber 1911 Stainless II!

The gun is in great condition though there is the “1911 idiot scratch” on it but for $650 shipped with 5 magazines (1 Kimber 7 rounder, 1 Kimber 8 rounder & 3 10 round Chip McCormick power mags) I’m not going to complain!  I took off the cheap lousy rubber grips, slapped on the GHOSTS grips I got from Bernie ages ago and added a bit of abrasive adhesive to the front grip area.

I’ve had a couple of 1911s in the past (including a Kimber Custom II) so I know I’ll shoot this thing well and I can’t wait to go to the range. 😀

What’s this?

Hehe look what I have…

Hehe that’s ~1k of 9mm FMJ bullets!  Not sure the weight but anyway long story short, Henry’s not doing reloading anymore so I scooped up all his (and Bray’s) stuff to learn the trade.  Right now everything is in pieces and Henry wasn’t able to do a “data dump” with me yet so I’ll just need to organize and read up before I start playing with this stuff.

Henry gave me a bunch of 40 S&W, 45 ACP, 223 & 308 bullets, various casings and some powder.  In a few weeks I’ll invite Henry & Bray over, we’ll set up the the Dillion XL650 and start cranking out reloads!
