Absolutely wonderful!

Last night the Beavers & Cubs went to a senior’s nursing home to sing xmas carols for the old folks and it was wonderful. I don’t remember doing this type of thing when I was a kid and I think it’s great how this particular group always do things in the community. 🙂

Some of the seniors were really into it as well, dancing and moving as the kids were singing.  At the end, the kids gave out the little mouse/candy cane treats they made last week.

Scout’s xmas party!

So last night was the Beavers & Cubs xmas party and it was great! There were a lot of activities for the kids, they sang and yeah it was a good time all around.

As usual Brandon had a great time and this group really puts on a good show, you can really see how much the kids enjoy things and I’m glad my boy can be a part of it.

Brandon likes Beavers…

So everyday when I pick Brandon up from school he always asks me if he’s going to Beavers and I’m glad that he’s enjoying it so much.  Anyway last night instead of having their usual gathering we met up at Club 300 Bowling so the kids could play and boy did Brandon enjoy it. 🙂

There were uh maybe 8 Beavers and a bunch of Cubs too, Brandon played at a table of Beavers only and all of the kids did well.  The alley put bumpers rails on the gutters and good thing otherwise the score would be 0 for everyone.  It was 10 pin bowling but with the small balls as that’s all the kids could handle.  They played two games, during the first one I was trying to help Brandon figure out how to bowl and he did alright…  The second game was a squeaker but woo my boy ended up on top! 😀

I was so proud of him, he did a great job and all the kids had fun.

We laugh at rain/snow!

So today Brandon and I went to the Woodland Trails Scout camp to be with the Beavers colony to hike around and for the kids to play games and it was absolutely amazing.  The group was invited because the Cubs are camping over the weekend in a cabin and the leaders thought our kids would have a good time.  As we arrived at the camp, I suddenly realized that it’s a place I went to when I was younger and it made sharing the experience with him even better.  I hope that when Brandon is older and if he has a family that he shares these types of experiences with his kids (I’ll tag along if I allowed).

Anyway the Cubs had their own thing planned so most of the time we were walking around doing our own thing and the Beavers had a good time.  Brandon did make his own pizza and got a small first aid kit (the Cubs were earning their first aid badges), it’s nice that the older group keeps the kids in mind.  Anyway just before lunch the parents went out to set up some games and it was a big success as our group enjoyed the activities.  Later we hiked to this camp ground with train cars converted to shelters and they had a blast running through them.

Overall the weather was alright, we received a bit of snow but Brandon was well dressed, warm and dry the whole time.  A few of the parents were not as prepared so I gave out a toque, gloves and some consumable hand warmers to help keep everyone comfortable.

The conditions looked worse than they were, at least Brandon and I were quite comfortable.  We left around 3:30pm and when we got home we relaxed the rest of the afternoon/night.  When Maggie got back from shopping I went to the basement, cleaned some stuff then yeah I’m sitting here now thinking what a fun day it was. 🙂

Spirit Walk 2015

So today Maggie and I participated with Brandon in the Spirit Walk 2015 and it was a blast!  The thing is designed for Beaver and Cub scouts and was open to any parent that wanted to come along.  We left the house around 11:45am, met up at the school where Brandon does Beavers got the map then went to the field in Acton (which was close to the original FTF field, ahh memories).  There were a lot of different groups of kids, if I had to guess there was easily over 150 and 14 in ours.  During the day we did a whole bunch of fun activities from an obstacle course to seeing birds of prey up close and a tractor ride and after dinner was the spirit walk.

There were Venture scouts and other leaders hiding in the forest and when we got to the designated areas, they’d come out and talk about the wind (wind energy was the theme of the day).  Since it was raining all day, Maggie and I took turns holding Brandon’s hand and overall he was pretty good though he needs to pay attention more.  I wore my goretex so was bone dry even though at times it rained pretty hard…  Brandon was bundled up pretty well with waterproof pants, a very water resistant jacket and rain boots while Maggie had a waterproof jacket and hiking boots (my other goretex pants were “ugly”).

During the Spirit walk at night, I was playing with my PVS-14 lol now that I don’t play airsoft much I don’t get to use it often so I took advantage of the darkness to get some night vision action. 😉

Hehe in the fourth NV picture you can see Brandon and Maggie though it’s not super clear and if you weren’t there it’s easy to miss…  The event ended around 8:30pm and by the time we got home around 45 minutes later the little guy was beat and fast asleep, not surprising since he was on his feet the entire time.  We had a great time and these are exactly the things I’m so excited to share with him, glad Maggie came along for the adventure too. 🙂

Beavers Investiture!

Beavers is something that Brandon enjoys and today was his investiture woo, now he’s a full member of the colony and I couldn’t be happier!

Typically I’d drop him off but today was a special day so I stuck around and the parents had a lot of activities to participate in as well.  I’m so glad I can share this with him, my little angel. 🙂
