A couple of weeks ago, I bought two Opteron 240 processors on eBay for $65 ea which arrived on Wednesday. I picked up an Asus K8N-DL motherboard yesterday however I screwed up on the memory. Since each Opteron has its own memory controller built on die, four DIMM slots are required to be occupied (2 for each chip) however the memory I purchased (again on eBay ;)) turned out to be DDR2 instead of DDR memory… So much for a “computer expert” huh?
Luckily I was able to snatch a good deal on eBay for some real registered DDR memory which should be arriving next week. Here are a few pictures of my latest project, aside from the small hiccup, I’m very excited! π
Isn’t it cool? π
