TAC09 Airsoft Convention

Yesterday Brian held the TAC09 airsoft convention and it was a lot of fun. The team hosted a table to meet the new players and to show off some of our toys. 😉 There were a handful of other teams present as well, Contras, Force Recon, SG-TRU, Rangers, WWII Reenactors, OutCountry and CAPS (not a team but represented as well). I especially enjoyed the WWII and OutCountry (Vietnam era) booths, both groups put on a very good show and the attention to details was outstanding. The custom built M1919 .30 caliber machine gun that Lee made was definitely the highlight of my day, followed closely by the beautiful Inokatsu M60 VN machine gun.

There were a few retailers as well and it’s a good thing I didn’t bring a lot of money with me. Heh I still picked up BBs, a few hats and a really cool corner engagement device for my aimpoint.  Here are a few pics…

There were a few guns for sale with clear receivers as per the laws, Velocity Arms was definitely cleaning up yesterday! Heh JR had fun dual wielding M249s, I’m not sure if he’ll do that again anytime soon. The last picture shows the Proud Corner Engagement Device for aimpoints, now I can stick my gun around the corner and see what’s there without exposing myself.  Should be useful for the Broadsword game that I’m playing later in March which is being hosted at an old hospital (converted to a DoD training facility).

All in all a good day and you can bet that the GHOSTS will be making a showing at TAC10! 😀

New M203 shells

Stephen was bugging me about updates (yes I said I’d give my blog more love but I don’t have anything to talk about right now) so here is one.  Just got two new Madbull XM108HP grenade shells and I can’t wait to try them out on Friday at TTAC3.  Blasting people will be so much fun

Aren’t they purdy? 🙂

Less airsoft stuff from now on

As I’m sure most of you are aware, much of my life revolves around airsoft which is a hobby that consumes me lol. I’ve finally built a team website (which can be found here) and from now on I’ll post the bulk of my airsoft blog entries (updates on events, reviews, etc) on that site

Guess that means I’ll only post my rants on politics, the environment and everything that’s evil about the world on my blog.  Ahh the way it should be. 😉

There’s an election going on and…

I talk about my airsoft guns. 😉 Or I guess I will now after unloading a couple of guns, I picked up a Systema M4A1 PTW MAX SCK. It’s pretty damn sweet, I’m not much of an M4A1 guy but this is definitely a keeper. I’ll go in depth more with the gun later, just wanted to post some pictures online because well I like to. 😀

I purchased the gun used but as you can see from the pictures it’s in excellent shape. Definitely the most realistic of all airsoft guns I have and I can’t wait to use it, hopefully with any luck this Sunday. 😀 Last picture shows the M4 with my M249 because I think that’s a nice combination.

I’ll post about the ongoing Canadian federal election on the weekend but that’s it for now.

Weird failure

Yesterday I noticed that my CA M4A1 would fire in full auto even when set to semi which was rather odd. I haven’t opened up the mechbox for months so it’s not like a spring would have popped out or something, anyway after taking it apart I found that the trigger contact rail broke.

Luckily for me I had an extra (pictured above and to the right), after installing it into my gun the rifle fires in semi again woo!

Woo for Haboob!

Over the weekend the team and I went to Operation Haboob in Rawdon Quebec and I have to say it certainly was pretty damn good. Man I wish we had fields like that in Southern Ontario, anyway I’m going to skip the usual write up about the game and such because my brain is still pretty much mush right now. I didn’t take many pictures because I was too busy playing but here’s a group picture including Marci of Wolfpack. She was an honourary GHOSTS on Saturday. 🙂

Note to self drink more water before and during the game next year, mild heatstroke and a hangover style headache is not fun!

A wet and wild game!

On Saturday some of the guys and I hit the Humanity’s Hammer game out at the Durham Tag field and man it was err interesting. On the way to the field, I remarked to Stephen that I was happy the rain was light and misty, not big fat rain and well as you guess about 30 seconds after I mentioned that, it started to come down hard! Good thing by game time the rain subsided and we were greeted by beautiful blue skies.

Our team was outnumbered 2-1 (~20 vs 50) and it looked like we’d have a tough day ahead of us, luckily we had a secret weapon. 😉 TTAC3 Brian was at the game and he took charge of our team melding us into an efficient fighting force. It was amazing our team worked so well together, that we battled the other side on even terms in every engagement. In fact by the day’s end our side racked up almost double the points of the other team! It really goes to show you that team work and experience is more important than the number of bodies one side has.

For the most part the weather held out, except at the very end when the monsoon hit, everyone was completely drenched and the BB sized hail which rained down on us was a fitting way to end the game. Water even got in my 5.11 waterproof boots (from running down my legs)!

After the game the guys, Brian and myself went out to eat and to recant the tales of our success and that was a lot of fun. 😀 I was rather fortunate, on Saturday I was shot in the lips but it could have been worse since at the time I was barking orders to my squad mates, could have easily lost my two front teeth! Perhaps it’s time to invest in some sort of mouth protection…

Here’s a picture of the GHOSTS and a couple of others before the game, don’t we look pretty? 😉 Overall a great game and I definitely look forward to the next one that the Rangers host.

Need support? :D

Today I received an A&K M249 Para (plus cash of course) in a trade for the Maruzen APS Type 96 (sigh didn’t get to use it much) BA rifle. Perhaps I’ll give sniping another try later, but anyway I’m glad that I have a support weapon again. 😀

The first picture gives you an idea on its size compared to my CA M4 and MP5. Heh doesn’t Maggie look scary? 😉 Unloaded it’s ~6.8kg and is pretty much identical to Jason’s CA M249 Para. I’ll do a review on it later, heh busy playing with my new toy.

TAC08 Airsoft Convention

On Saturday I attended Brian’s TAC08 airsoft convention at the FACT facility and it was great. The team (well Phil mainly) had decided to set up a table at the last minute and while I was doubtful at how things would go, I have to say it turned out very well. Heh aside from the retailers, I think it’s safe to say that the GHOSTS had the most impressive table that day. 😉

Attendance topped out at 200+ people and man at times you really felt like sardines in a can! Anyway for most of the day I was at the team table fielding questions from newbie/novice players, which was quite fun and watching people oogle the various guns and toys on display. Jason’s toys definitely garnered the most attention but that’s not a surprise, the pulse rifle and CA M249 para look very nice. The more experienced players definitely moved towards Mario’s Systema M4A1 PTW. A few people noticed my ghillied up L96 but as JR said, it’s camo’ed and people can’t see it. 😉 Besides guns, Steve had made up a few team posters and they looked absolutely awesome. Pictures do not do them justice and it really made our team look very professional. 😀

Later in the day there was a bit of a “fashion” show and while we lost out to the Contras (who really are prettier) I still think we had the crowd in our favor. 🙂 Not all was lost, I was able to beat out Bartek in the special forces impression. Anyway here are some pics from the day…

All in all a great day, I didn’t do any shooting this weekend but still had a very fun time showing off toys and talking to people. 😀

TM SOCOM MK23 is HUGE!

Just received a TM SOCOM MK23 NBB today and man this is a big gun! Even without the silencer, it’s considerably larger than my TM M1911A1 and due to its double stacked mag design it’s very thick too. It’s a bit too big for my hands, probably would look about right in Mark’s but oh well. 😉 The MK23 is plasticy and a bit unbalanced but with the silencer attached is very quiet. It’s the perfect side arm to go with my sniper setup, this thing won’t give away my position if I need to turn to my sidearm on the field.

Sweet! 😀
