Wow that was great!

So yesterday Brian, Henry, Brayden and I went to the Rockcut Gun Club in North bay to take a day/night shooting class and it was absolutely awesome.  Since I’ve gotten into the hobby of shooting, I’ve always wanted to take a class and this first one was as exciting as I expected.  There were 8 of us and two instructors so a decent student to teacher ratio and they helped us work on the fundamentals and we practiced a lot of mag changes, weapon transitions and movement.

The practice I did last week at Silverdale helped, my mag reloads weren’t bad and I just need to practice a bit more.  We did a lot of static shooting during the day time hours and when the darkness fell we started to do some really fun stuff.  Before we did though, we rehashed all the drills we did in the light just to make sure everything worked and I practiced both with NV and without.  After we started to do fire and movement along with using cover and concealment and boy was that a blast.  Even though I’m getting over a bad cold, during those drills I felt like a million bucks and volunteered to do everything multiple times because it was so damn fun!

I was pleasantly surprised at how well the stock Daniel Defense flash hider works on the MK18, it did a good job at suppressing the flash and directing the brightness away from me as I was shooting.  When I had my 14 flipped up, the muzzle flash didn’t cause me any problems though I could see how others with compensators on their guns may run into issues with blinding themselves.  Poor Henry, he broke his Bushmaster bolt earlier in the year so I lent him my backup NEA complete BCG and he had a ton of problems…  To be fair he was running it previously ok but it was not playing nice with him last night.  When I swapped the DD BCG with him, his gun worked just fine and the NEA choked in the MK18 so there’s definitely something wrong with it.  Something we’ll try and figure out next time we go to the range.

Brian & Henry signed up as members at Rockcut and even though it’s almost 4 hours away I will be joining as well.  The club is well run and I really like the atmosphere there, they’ll be running more classes in the spring and I already told them that I’d be in. 😀  Later in the week I’ll post some videos on the work we did, if any of it came out well.
