A hiking we will go…

So today Mario and I went for a hike in the Rouge Valley Park and boy was it icy!!!  Initially we were suppose to walk around a park in Etobicoke but when we got there, it was a paved path so we went to the other one and had a great time.  I brought my 30 lbs survival bag, Mario had his pack too but I found out later he wasn’t really carrying anything lol.  Anyway the weather was absolutely beautiful, hovering around 0 the ground for the most part was solid so it wasn’t messy and cool enough that we weren’t sweating but warm enough that it wasn’t cold.

As mentioned previously the ground was really icy so we had to watch our steps everywhere and I’m glad I had hiking poles!  I offered one to Mario but he didn’t want one so fine, better for me.  For a winter weekday, there were a surprising number of people out and about, I guess they all had the same idea as us…  In total we were out hiking for 4 hours and covered 10.8 km according to my Garmin Foretrex 401.  My new Salomon boots were great too, waterproof and light though they did pinch my toes a bit so I’m going to have to loosen the laces a bit.

After the hike, we decided to go to Sail to see what types of goodies they had and I picked up a pair of Merrel waterproof shoes to use for the winter.  My everyday pair of shoes right now are sneakers and while we’ve been lucky with the amount of snow we’ve received I decided not to push it further and got some appropriate footwear.

My step counter clocked in over 17.7k steps and I’m really happy that I was able to do that hike with 30 lbs on my back and not be sore afterwards. 🙂
