A do nothing weekend

This weekend was very low key and quite enjoyable. 🙂  On Saturday I was busy redoing some of the Canadian Scouting online courses, it didn’t seem to take after the first time back during the holidays and that was a bit annoying.  I emailed the local leader that handles that and she mentioned that I was still missing some modules and had to redo for a third time!  Not the most efficient system for sure but it’s all done and complete now, at least for the Beavers level, if I continue this when Brandon becomes a cub scout then I guess I’ll have to do that section next.

In the afternoon Brandon and I played some various games, he likes it when I’m a monster and he has a weapon to defend himself though lol he doesn’t always get me so when he misses with his melee weapon, I go in for the kill and tickle him. 😉

Saturday night I got my guns ready as I planned to go to Silverdale on Sunday with a coworker.

Today I did just that, picked up my coworker Reuben and went to the range.  It was his third time shooting but the first two were packages at gun clubs and there you don’t really get to do that much shooting and he enjoyed today’s session very much.  We both prefer shooting the steel targets rather than paper and Reuben to his credit shot very well for a beginner!  Took to the instructions I gave him very well too which was nice.

It was also an occasion to try out my new SAM 1911 Thunderbolt and lol it was a bit of a disaster.  First the gun would shoot very low, maybe 3-4″ low (when I shot with the Kimber it was just fine) but worse yet was the jamming! Now considering the gun is minty fresh I’m not too worried about it because some guns need a break in period.  Other than the FTF, the slide would fail to go into battery probably once or twice a mag and it just wouldn’t feed with my Chip McCormick 10 round Power mags or the 8 round ACT mag that came with the gun.  I had a few problems with the Wilson Combat 47D mags but at least I could get them to work, the two I mentioned previously just wouldn’t though.  I’m wondering if the cold weather had anything to do with it too because when I try with some snap caps everything works just fine.

Doesn’t matter I won’t give up on the thing that easily, we’ll see how it shoots after a season’s worth of use. 😉

Reuben was a bit timid at first but after seeing that guns aren’t that scary really opened up and enjoyed shooting the Glock 17.  He was rather good with it too, hitting the small 4″ steel plate multiple times (most newbs go 0/10).

We wrapped things up around 12 but traffic sucked so I didn’t get home till after 2 and had to miss Brandon’s swimming…  While they were away I cleaned my guns and the rest of the afternoon chilled with the family.  Brandon and I built some stuff with his lego and played the whole evening, enough that I’m pretty darn tired now.

Back to the grind tomorrow and I feel pretty good, it was a relaxing weekend.
