So after the horrific attack in New Zealand last week by a white supremacist the first order of the government is to ban the type of weapon that was used ugh.

New Zealand will ban military-style semi-automatics and assault rifles, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced Thursday, six days after attacks on two mosques in Christchurch that left 50 people dead.

“On 15 March, our history changed forever. Now, our laws will, too,” Ardern said. “We are announcing action today on behalf of all New Zealanders to strengthen our gun laws and make our country a safer place.”

It definitely was a heinous act but it was premeditated and does one think that if the terrorist who killed those people didn’t have access to a gun that he’d just stay home?  Sigh it’s an opportunity for us as a society to deal with the issue of white supremacy, it’s a real and growing problem but instead of figuring why people are moving in that direction, let’s ban guns because that’s the easy answer.  Come on, if he didn’t have a gun he wouldn’t be able to kill right.

Gun control definitely has a place at the table in terms of discussion but instead of working around the edges, why can’t we deal with the source of the problem instead?  There’s a common theme here and that it’s right wing extremism needs to be addressed.  Anything else is simply semantics, but oh no now that I’ve said it the idiots who adhere simply to right wing ideology will cry about being the real victims.

Banning certain items just means these losers will just use other devices (home made bombs, vehicles, etc) to wreak terror, what needs to be addressed is the ideology…  Show how warped a reality it is and perhaps people will see it for what it really is, a pile of bull shit.
