On Friday I took my upgraded TM G36C and TM Hi Cap 5.1 guns to TTAC3 for a quick and dirty CQB session and both guns worked quite well. I’ll start with the assault rifle, it was crono’ed with a muzzle velocity of 100m/s with 0.2g BBs which is a bit slower than I would have expected. For the short engagement distances in TTAC3 though, that is definitely plenty but I plan to use it as a field/CQB weapon and would like to get it shooting in the 105-110m/s range.
Anyway getting back to how it performed as a weapon at TTAC3, it is definitely much easier to use than the G&P M4A1 (I don’t think I’ll use that rifle at TTAC3 again) thanks to its smaller size and light weight. This is the second time I’m using the G36C at TTAC3 and I wasn’t bumping into walls and corners like I did with the M4A1. Those of you who want to move quickly should definitely add the longer bottom rail and grip, I found that they allowed me to swing the rifle around corners much faster since it’s a more natural position for the hands. The sights work very well at moderate distances (5m or more), closer than that though it takes too long to use sights in general (at least I find). In the dark though the stock sights are useless, I’ll look into getting real tritium G36C sights which glow slightly in low light situations. Thanks to the rails on the side of the gun, I plan to add a pressure switch flashlight but will only use it sparingly (the light gives away your position).
My biggest complaint is with the magazine (which you can probably guess from my previous post about the gun). My pants have thigh pockets which I use to put my spent magazines and the tabs on the sides of the G36C mag would interfere with the pocket which means it takes more time to reload. It didn’t get me killed yet but I can see it happening at future CQB events. The TM G36C is front heavy (the battery is in the fore grip) which can be a problem if you’re not using in a conventional battle stance. For instance I had to duck and take cover behind a structure that was 1m tall and peeking around the corner with the gun was a bit uncomfortable. Then again this would be an issue with most AEG’s with the battery in the fore grip.
Overall as a CQB weapon the TM G36C is decent and it’s easier to use than an AK47 or M4A1. The drawback of the magazine is an issue but as always if you’re reloading make sure you’re teammate is covering you (if you’re a lone wolf I guess you’re stuck).
The TM HiCap 5.1 was the highlight of my night and the gun performed very well! The gun was crono’ed at 95m/s however with 0.25g BBs which means with 0.2g, the muzzle velocity should run closer to 110m/s. The blow back of the Hi Cap with metal slide is very crisp but I need to break in the slide a bit better since it’s very tight. The gun is very accurate and I could pick people of easier with this gun than the G36C! The sights are decent but useless in low light situations. Since it’s gas there’s no delay when you pull the trigger (pistols are great for CQB).
Gas mileage was poor (again though this might be due to the tight slide), I can only shoot one full mag of BBs before I have to regas. Cool down is also a problem, if you want a TM Hi Cap series gun, make sure you buy a couple of extra mags! Aside from that there are no other complaints about the gun, it’s an awesome sidearm.
I’ll be attending a field game next weekend and will use the same guns so I can write how the two guns perform at longer ranges then. 🙂
