EOTEC mil sim wrap up

Yesterday Mark and I went to a mil sim game at EOTEC (TTAC3’s outdoor field) and overall it was a lot of fun. ๐Ÿ™‚ It was wet and the mosquitoes were out in full force but overall I had a good time. The game ran for about 5 hours and there were about 25-30 people who showed up. Despite the gloomy weather, spirits were high and we were anxious to get into the game.

Unfortunately the rain meant the forest was very humid and my glasses and goggles kept fogging up. In fact for the first 1 1/2-2 hours, I didn’t even fire a shot because I couldn’t see anything! I knew there was a lot of enemy movement because I could hear engagements happening all around but I just couldn’t see in front of me more than 3 meters. It was definitely very frustrating and I spent the early part of the game following teammates from one point to another. After a bit I got frustrated and became the runner, heck I was useless as a rifleman because of the fogging issue so I might as well try to make myself useful in other ways. ๐Ÿ˜‰ My teammates would lay down covering fire while I transported goods to and from the RV point and that was fun for a bit till I got lost.

Alone, my first priority was to fix my fogging issue and after a bit of work (with sticks and other objects I found), I could finally see without my goggles fogging up too much. Trying to make my way back to my team, I bumped into a four man enemy patrol, I caught them by surprise and was able to take two guys out before I was hit.

Frustrated with my fogging issue and hungry, I made my way back to base camp and was going to call it a day but my teammate Chris talked me into going back into the forest for one last stint. I borrowed a plastic wire mesh face mask from the organizer and got back into the thick of things. Along with Chris and I, there was also Marcy (sniper) and Russ. We tried to regroup with the rest of our team but couldn’t make radio contact or find them and kept running into enemy units. Unfortunately we kept running into enemies with far superior numbers (2+:1 on average) so it was difficult for us to make any headway.

In the haste of a retreat Russ was taken down so it left my squad with just three people. With ~12-15 enemies on our trail and the day winding down we decided to make a final stand in a dense grassy area. Laying still in the prone position caused my glasses to fog up once again and I could barely see. It’s not so bad this time around though since engagements would be much closer, I could just shoot in the general direction. The three of us ended up taking out about 6 of their guys before we were taken down.

I’m certainly glad Chris talked me into going back out for one last run since the last hour or so of action was definitely hot and intense. ๐Ÿ˜€ It was a fun game and I definitely would love to attend another EOTEC mil sim in the future although not if it rains. Heh I’m not a wuss and don’t mind getting dirty but not being able to see really puts a damper into the game. ๐Ÿ™

I learnt a lot from Marcy, as a full time Canadian forces soldier she was a good leader and would notice things that most people would easily overlook. Her brigade is being deployed to Afghanistan in August (I think, or maybe it’s September) and I wish her all the best. ๐Ÿ™‚

All in all another great game hosted by Brian and I can’t wait to the next one. While I was using the TM G36C, I haven’t developed an opinion yet since I probably fired less than 100 rounds. There might be a Flag Raiders game on Saturday, hopefully I can find out more how it performs then.

Oh sorry there are no pictures because it was raining on and off the entire game and I didn’t want to damage my camera. Brian (the host) took some pictures and when he posts them online I will link to them.
