Scandal?

So it came out that in 2001 our PM Justin Trudeau dressed up in brown face as part of a halloween costume.

Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau says he knows now that his decision to dress up in brownface and a turban for a gala at a private school where he worked 18 years ago was a racist thing to do and he is now “deeply sorry.”

Trudeau also admitted there was a second instance of racist behaviour. “When I was in high school I dressed up at a talent show and sang Day O with makeup on,” he said.

Speaking to reporters on his campaign plane, Trudeau apologized for his actions, saying that he now recognizes his actions were racist.

To be fair 2001 was a different time, I’m not saying it’s right but people did stupid stuff like this.  Just like how Scheer opponents dug up a speech he made on gays in 2005 (which while being pro LBGT, I don’t really care), I don’t think this is a big deal, people’s views evolve and all he has to say now is that it’s wrong and that he was sorry; which he’s done.

Let’s not get distracted with this type of side show and focus on the policy differences between the parties!

  1. What is deemed hurtful, racist, or insensitive has changed over time and I suspect it will continue to evolve going forward. Be that as it may there will always be people who take actions or say things to deliberately inflict pain and suffering on you. The best way to combat this is to not allow what others say or do to impact how you feel about yourself. Believe in yourself and do not allow others to have power over you. Their words are only hurtful if you allow them to be.
