You can’t eat toilet paper

One thing I rarely talk about on my blog is my family’s emergency preparedness because people often think you’re crazy if you do that, well I want to ask who’s crazy now lol.  Kidding aside, throughout my life (and I’ve had it very good compared to others), I’ve seen a North American blackout that lasted a few days, ice storms that caused some people to be without power for weeks, multiple pandemic/illnesses that sweep through and smaller scale issues that several years ago made me start preparing for whatever life would throw at us.

So now with the COVID-19 craziness, at least I can sit back and laugh, no rush to get toilet paper for us!  With that said it surprises me that TP is the item to stock up on, people really have gone insane.  As I’ve advised others, look at what you’ve consumed in the last 2-3 weeks and based on that get your supplies accordingly.  I’d guestimate that we have ~6 months worth of food on hand and keep in mind, this is food that we normally eat and rotate out so there won’t be any unpleasant surprises.  In addition to food, yes toilet paper is a necessity but there’s no need to panic buy it and think of all the other stuff you may need.  Cleaning products, things for house hold maintenance, feminine hygiene items, for my sisters baby products, basic medicines, etc.

If you need toilet paper by all means get some but don’t hoard up on it and while you’re out there scoop up items that people aren’t thinking about yet.

While others have started to panic and buy everything they can get a hold of we’re just doing our usual thing. Things like this BlogTO post have given me a good laugh, hopefully COVID-19 causes people to rethink their priorities and prepare a bit more in the future so they don’t run into the same situation next time around because there will be a next time.
