After a wild Liberal convention on Saturday, Stephane Dion has been crowned the leader of the Liberal party of Canada. I was hoping that Bob Rae would win but Dion is not a bad choice, unlike many of the other candidates he doesn’t have much political “baggage”.
Personally I like Stephane Dion, he seems to be honest, has integrity and he’s one of the straightest shooters on Parliament Hill. As an environmentalist and former Environment Minister hopefully Dion will push the Liberals in a truly green direction, with real action instead of empty promises.
There’s a lot of work the Liberals have to do before the next election and I hope the various camps within the party can now unite and plan a real strategy to defeat the Conservatives soundly. The possibility of another Conservative government when the current minority government falls is too scary a prospect…
