So every long weekend, my company gives us an extra day off and that kicks a lot of ass. ๐ On Friday I didn’t do anything exciting, even though I was off I was busy answering emails and doing a bit of work, meh comes with the job and I accept it. Also swung by Canadian Tire to pick up a 24V battery powered weed eater, I was in desperate need of one and now I can trim edges that I just can’t do with the lawn mower so that’s good. I also dropped by Mario’s place to pick up a couple of guns, I got two from Jason Thursday night but needed some more because I had a game set on Saturday at UA with a bunch of newbies.
So I’ve been trying to get a few guys from work to come play airsoft for a while now and finally the stars aligned and I got 3 (Andrew, Andrew and Christian) to come play. One of the Andrew’s brought his gf Sarah out and Christian had three friends that are new to airsoft come out as well. The games overall were pretty easy early on, and fighting against newbs is almost not fair so instead of running the rifle I just used my side arm and lol the S-Thunder grenade launcher when I needed a bit more firepower. ๐
Later in the day UA integrated all the various groups playing and ran some scenarios, I volunteered to be on the opposing team because it’s more fun to shoot your friends right. Surprisingly the guys were still pretty fresh at 5:45PM (started around 12:30PM) but Maggie was giving me some flak so I decided to call it a game and the guys left too, to go to other dinner arrangements. Overall I had a good time and even after integration of the teams I had no trouble. Jason & Stephen told me that UA has banned a bunch of cheaters and that things have gotten better and I’m happy to say that at least on this day I had no problems.
I do have some footage of the game with from my Contour, will post it up a bit later.
Today I decided to take the family to the zoo as Brandon absolutely loves animals of all kinds. We were lucky, it wasn’t super hot and for much of the day there was a light breeze. Hehe Brandon wanted to go into every building that we passed and you could see it in his face that he was having a good time. ๐ He particularly enjoyed seeing the elephant, rhino and giraffes. He also enjoyed seeing all the various butterflies flying around one of the buildings.
Overall the zoo was fun, for some reason we decided to go see the pandas and waited in line for at least an hour… It wasn’t too bad, I don’t care much about pandas but Brandon was asking about them and I think Maggie wanted to see them too. There were two incidents though when Brandon and I were looking at the pandas. Waiting patiently for people to leave, the couple in front of me step out and this asshole Chinese guy immediately jumps the line and I have to speak up. He replies to my not so nice comment about us being in front of him by saying “Oh” and moves but this other Chinese lady has him beat.
There’s a sliver of space between the arm carrying Brandon and the person I’m next to, she slips in then turns her body so it’s parallel to the rail so now she’s in front of Brandon and he can’t see the panda so I speak up, she gives me this startled look and I tell her again that she’s in his way so she moves. We’re there for a max of maybe another 30 seconds before the boy looses interest so I turn around and the lady is behind me. Unfortunately it’s packed and I can’t get out if she’s standing in front of me so I tell her just that, that I can’t leave unless he moves aside. She doesn’t but the guy next to her moves (he got a spot next to the rail, not because he heard me) so I square my shoulders and walk straight out which means my shoulder hits hers and I went quick so it’s be more forceful.
I mean even before I had Brandon, I always went out of my way to make it easy for parents of young children because I figure it’s a pain in the ass to carry them and it definitely can be. Add a crowded environment and it just exacerbates the situation so yeah I’m a jerk when I need to be. That’s one of the things I hate most about Chinese people (especially the ones from out East), they have absolutely no courtesy and frankly just have no manners to begin with. Even the ones with money have terrible manners, as I tell Maggie money can’t buy class…
Despite the unpleasantness at the end everyone had a great time and I’m so glad I could bring Brandon to the zoo. It’s such a pleasure to see his reaction when he sees all the animals and surprisingly he knew pretty much what everything was. I guess all those books and educational show he watches is starting to pay off!
Tomorrow I have a bit of work to do for Tuesday, it’s alright it’ll still be pretty relaxing overall. ๐
