Fired for doing her job

So this week the Natural resources minister Gary Lunn fired the Linda Keen, president of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission not because she was incompetent but because she was doing her job. As I’m sure know late last year Ms. Lunn shut down the Chalk River reactor because of safety concerns, sure those issues should have been addressed years ago but they weren’t and she decided to pull the plug.

There was an immediate ripple around the world and scare tactics on how there would not be enough medical radio isotopes. With all due respect to the people in need of the medical isotopes, Ms. Lunn’s job is to maintain safety at Canada’s nuclear facilities.

For her diligence, the Conservative government drags her name through the mud and fires her. I certainly hope Ms. Lunn goes through with her promise of suing the government for wrongful dismissal.

Keen, who has been critical of the government’s handling of the problems at the reactor, was caught up in a dispute with the government when she declined to approve restarting the reactor because required safety upgrades had not been finished.

Sigh the Conservatives are adopting Republican style tactics and are attacking every facet of government that does not agree with its values. Something to keep in mind when the next election rolls around…
