A very Colin day…

The day started off early as I left the house around 7:30AM to pick up Brayden to go to Silverdale and we met up with Brian and Milan at the range.  We were able to secure one of the competition ranges to practice on and I particularly liked the shoot on the move ability, at the other ranges you’re shooting from a static position.  Shooting on the move is definitely a lot more difficult but I had a great time, lol I forgot to bring my belt so while the other guys were practicing pistol draws and such I was doing my own thing.

I put probably ~300 rounds through the Daniel Defense MK18 and it didn’t have a single hiccup, recoil was manageable though not as soft shooting as Brayden’s NEA SBR as he has a really good brake on his rifle. I’m on the fence about getting a good brake as I don’t like the huge fireball I’ve seen from the various brakes at the range and online…  That and when I shoot at night (getting there lol), I don’t want to be blinded by my rifle’s flash so perhaps I just need to shoot my AR more and get use to controlling it better.

At the distances I was shooting today (20-30 yards), I didn’t need a perfectly zeroed optic but around 11AM, I left the guys to properly dial in my scope and lol had to wait a good 30 minutes to get a spot at any of the other ranges as every stall was full.  I lucked out and got a spot at the 50 yard line which is the distance I wanted initially because the point of impact at 50 yards is around the same at 200 yards.  Bullets don’t fly straight and at 50 yards it’s going up and at 200 it’s going down so that’s the best distance to use.  After about 10-15 minutes of shooting, I was able to get a grouping of ~1.5″ at 50 yards which isn’t great but good enough for me and I know I’m the limiting factor, not the rifle, ammo or optic.

I had so much fun today, I forgot to snap any pictures which sucks balls because I wanted some sexy glamour shots of the Daniel Defense MK18 in action but I guess I’ll have to wait for next time.

On the way home I dropped by Laura’s place to pick up my crate of 7.62×39 surplus corrosive ammo and a gear stand I had her make for me and boy did she do a good job!

Ugh the ugly 1970s shag carpet is why I usually put down a white cloth when I take pictures but didn’t have of the cloth to cover things up.  Whatever  anyway the gear stand works great, it holds my LBT 6094B, battle belt, helmet and a bandoleer with additional AR-15 mags no problem.  In fact it’s so sturdy that I think I could really load it up with a lot of weight and it’d be fine…  I told Laura not to stain the wood (she offered) but with use, it’d just wear off and look crappy anyway.

Later in the evening with the Elcan SpecterDR dialed in, I zeroed my PEQ-15, irons and the RDS mounted up high.  Mmm a very fun day and too bad I have to go to work tomorrow because I’m amp’ed up and want to shoot some more.
