What should they have done?

Wow a two’fer for me today.  I saw this news article and it freaking drives me nuts that people are penalized for doing the right thing.

They said a man and woman got into a fight; the woman was cut in the hand and stabbed in the back.

Two of her male friends then showed up and attacked the man, police said, adding one of the friends pulled out a BB gun.

The woman was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Daniel Magnus, 35, faces three charges including assault with a weapon for the original altercation.

Jason Styra, 36, is charged with possession of a weapon dangerous to the public in relation to the BB gun.

Mr. Styra as far as I’m concerned did nothing wrong, him and his friend stopped a violent attack and for that he’s rewarded with a weapons charge.  This is similar to our self defence laws, it’s been programmed into our minds that calling the police is the only option to deal with violence and because when seconds count, police are only minutes away.

  1. This is an interesting story that would have played out differently in the States. The men wouldn’t have been charged for helping the lady who was attacked and the men would have probably have brought a real gun to the fight instead of a BB peashooter. I respect that Canada has a low tolerance for gun ownership in general but what are citizens suppose to do in a self-defense situation? I think I like my 2A rights in this case.

  2. Hi Tim.

Despite being neighbors, yeah our countries are quite different. I believe as long as it’s regulated we should be able to do whatever we want to do, our gun laws are too strict IMHO though the US laws in some states anyway are too loose. There has to be a happy medium, unfortunately since we don’t have a 2A to protect us our politicians hit us at every opportunity in an attempt to show the public it’s doing something about gun crime even though it doesn’t have an actual affect.

I have to say I’m glad I don’t have to worry about people carrying guns all around me however I also feel our self defense laws are absolutely ridiculous. Literally, the criminals have more rights than the victims it’s insane. 🙁

  3. Petition your new Prime Minister Trudeau. He seem’s like a 2016 type of guy, just saying …
    😉

  4. Haha. Unfortunately the anti gun sentiment in the Liberal party of Canada is pretty large and the gun community in Canada is not as organized. Instead of having a unified front, the community likes to yell at each other for being either Liberal or Conservative instead of seeing we’re in this together as gun owners.
