I fixed it!

So many years ago I had a Canon EF 28-135 F3.5-5.6 IS lens, it was a pretty good lens but back then I didn’t know much about photography and used it with crop sensor bodies so I always thought it was a bit tight.  Anyway after I bought the original 24-105 F4L IS lens, I gave the old one to Jessie and well she hasn’t used it much in the last 4 years.  I recently picked up a used 5D Mark II body and since she wasn’t using it I asked if I could play with it.

I got it from Jason yesterday and while I accept responsibility for being stupid, he handed it to me with the hood on backwards but I didn’t realize the hood wasn’t secured so the lens fell on the ground and broke.  Something inside broke so while we had a good laugh it was rather annoying.  Last night with nothing to do, I decided to take the lens apart to see the internals and well I ended up fixing it. 😀

I never thought I’d be able to put it back together when I snapped the picture but I was able to identify the problem, snap the piece back in place and successfully put the lens back together!  It works though I installed the focus ring backwards so it doesn’t move, that’s alright I’ll take everything apart again and flip it, then it’ll be as good as new!  A side benefit it was always a dusty lens so i cleaned it out as well and it took some nice pictures. 😀

It reminded me of when I was young, I use to love taking stuff apart to see how things work and am very happy this turned out well.
