So I often complain about Canada’s gun laws because well they’re stupid and while I’m not a proponent of US style gun laws, this is a prime example of useless laws that only give the appearance that the government is addressing gun crime.
“This bill recognizes that illegal firearms are often tied to organized crime and provides a new tool to law enforcement officers to keep criminals off our roads – with a goal of preventing more families from enduring this heartbreak.”
Under the Prohibiting Driving with Illegal Firearms Act, those found guilty could face up to six months in prison, up to $10,000 in fines as well as a year-long driving suspension. Repeat offenders would face stiffer penalties.

It’s already illegal to be in possession of illegal firearms and if you’re caught transporting one, federal law says you’re going to jail. Who really thinks someone who has an illegal gun will be deterred from transporting it if this bill becomes law? Sigh there’s a lot you can do to tackle gun crime but our stupid politicians are only interested in fluff and short term “fixes” that sound good.
