So last night at the end of year Scouting BBQ, one of the Beaver leaders knocked my Canon 70-200 F2.8L IS II lens from the picnic table and onto the concrete floor breaking it. UGH, I think there’s a problem with the focusing motor but man I’m so damn annoyed right now… I was switching through the two lenses most of the night and happen to set it down to eat, it’s out of the way but I mean accidents happen.
No one’s fault really but I’ve had a string of really bad luck in the last little while, my car windshield then tire and now this. Perhaps it’s a sign I should forget about photography and take up another hobby.
I hope that the Individual owned up to the accident and offered to pay for the damage!
Sigh, I highly doubt it and I don’t think the individual in question could pay for it anyway in her current financial situation.
It was an accident, at least it’s salvageable.
Regardless of the Individual’s financial situation the person should still think of some way to pay for the cost. If it was me I’d paid what I could over some period even if it took a long time (e.g. $1 per week). That’s the honourable thing to do! Doesn’t this lens cost around $2000?
Colin,
I don’t want to give you my name but I was present when the lens fell over and I saw the incident. Regardless of the cost I still think you should press for compensation! It’s not right to just walk away, people must accept responsibility for their actions. If they don’t than perhaps you need to confront the individual in question or perhaps even consider a small claims court action.
Ya the Canon 70-200 F2.8 IS II retails for over $2k. Thanks, I’ll be dropping the lens off at Vistek later this week to see how much it’ll cost to repair and go from there.
Maggie always says I’m too nice, perhaps it’s true. I’ll see how much it costs to repair the lens before I do anything, which frankly will probably be nothing because I know the other person’s financial situation is quite poor. We’ll see what the future brings.
