My dad has been talking to me for a few months about buying a laptop for my mom so she can play her online games (poker and such) from the comfort of anywhere in the house. Yesterday we went to Best Buy to pick up a laptop, I guess it’s was a bit of a belated birthday gift. 😉

It’s a Toshiba Satellite something (forgot the model number) and for a basic model it has some pretty nice features. Celeron M 380, 512MB DDR2, 60GB HDD, 802.11b/g, dual layer DVD burner and IEEE 1394, not bad for $700. The 15.4″ widescreen is quite nice (didn’t think I’d like that as much) but it’s a bit heavy at just under 3kg. Spent a few hours in the afternoon prepping the machine (getting rid of all the default junk trial apps, updating the OS, installing AV software).

I believe my mom was happy with the laptop but being her frugal self told us that it was a waste of money (she yelled at me first because she thought I bought it for her lol). Anyway I thought it was a nice gift and wanted to share. 🙂
