Damn that was close

So yesterday there was a moderate geomagnetic storm & it was possible that auroras would be visible as far South as Algonquin park so on a whim, Mario and I decided to go to see if we could capture something unique.  We got to the Spruce Bog boardwalk trail at around 9pm and waited for the show, according to some of the aurora watching sites I visit it was suppose to peak at around 11pm.  Unfortunately it was all for naught and we couldn’t spot anything, we even stayed till 12am. 🙁

While we were waiting I tried out some light painting and took a few pictures of other things to pass the time.

It was fun and I think I’ll get some multicoloured lights to try light painting again in the future if I find a cool dark place.  The stars were out, god the skies are beautiful out there but with the full moon rising the milky way core wasn’t visible (though we were looking North too).

On the way back, well this happened…

We got really lucky and I should have known better!  Up North it’s vital that drivers watch out for wildlife though to be fair with the moose walking down the road, it was hard to spot but still definitely lucked out there!  On the way to the bog, we saw a larger male near the side of the road as well as other wildlife too.

After dropping Mario off, I got back around 4, took a shower to wash all the deet off then hit the sack.  Woke up feeling pretty good at 9, worked the rest of the day but feel quite tired now so perhaps I’ll go to bed shortly to try and catch up on my missing beauty sleep.  Despite not seeing the auroras I had a fun time and can’t wait to do some astro photography in the near future. 🙂

  1. HOLY FUCK, that was close. Hitting an animal of that size at full speed could have killed you.

One more time … HOLY FUCK

  2. Yeah in the morning after I came home, I gave Maggie & Brandon an extra long hug. Sigh I should have known better about driving in Northern Ontario, needless to say I’ll be more cautious in the future.
