Oops a bit late to the game but better late than never right. I’ve been comparing the Conservative government to the Republicans in the US for years as they both employ the same bull shit tactics on everything. Now under the guise of cutting the Federal deficit (and when was the last time a Conservative government balanced the budget that they did not inherit) the Harper government is drastically cutting back on its spending on the Sciences, after all why do we need it when Harper knows best…

There’s been a bit of news up here in Canada about how the government is muzzling scientists that present observations and opinions that differ from the official government line, which happens to be very similar to what happened when W was in power between 2000-2008 in the US. Claims like “the science behind climate change is still debatable” is 100% a lie , there is a mountain of evidence that supports it but of course the Conservatives will just see what they want to see and tell Canadians what they want to say.

Anyway a bunch of Scientists gathered on Parliament hill to mourn “The Death of Evidence“. CBC has a nice piece on it…

“Scientists are generally not agitators, but this continuous set of decisions has got very many scientists hot under the collar,” says Scott Findlay, a rally organizer and University of Ottawa ecology professor.

Findlay says the scientific community is getting increasingly distressed by what appears to be a deliberate federal government campaign to reduce the capacity of federal institutions to collect evidence and bring it forward.

I guess what’s the point of spending money on science when you’re just going to ignore the findings right… This is a real problem, I’m baffled at the reaction of the people and governments, science and technology are the two pillars that made the Western world what it is. To turn our backs on it now is fool hardy especially as 20th century consumption has pushed our world to the edge of disaster on many fronts. We’ll need both to help us solve the problems of the 21st century!

I know, let’s be like the retards in the US and legislate scientists to show us what our governments want, that’ll work out real well for the world.
