Dodged one there…

In the afternoon, Maggie and I decided to bring Brandon to get a hair cut and on the way I had to stop at an RBC to get some money. As I’m pulling out of this plaza, I guess I cut the curb and popped my rear right tire. 🙁 The car tire pressure sensor light came on right away but I thought it felt ok. Decided to pull over anyway to check and low and behold, I had a flat tire.

I considered very briefly to change the tire myself but decided against it, I have never done it before and I have Toyota’s road side service so why not use that right. It took the guy about 15 minutes to get to me which wasn’t bad but Brandon was a bit fussy so I was counting the seconds. I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised but it took the service man 5 minutes to get my old tire off and to install the spare, he mentioned that I probably would not have been able to get the nuts off since they were torqued too much apparently. He also said that the issue usually affects older tires but I mean my car is 2 years old with just over 37k of mileage on it and I have winter tires so these tires have maybe 20k on them max…

While I waited, I called my dealership to find out if they could replace the blown out tire same day and they could but that their service dept closes at 4PM. After dropping Maggie and Brandon off at home, I raced to the dealership to get the work done and lol the service department was closed 15 minutes early! Weighing my options, I decided to ask the inventory guys if they had the tire in stock, they did and when I said I would have to bring my car back, the inventory manager was surprised that the service dept was closed so early and got them to replace the tire for me anyway (which was very nice of him). I thanked him again later and he empathized with my situation and would want the tired swapped asap if he were in my shoes.

Sigh $340 I didn’t want to spend but I guess as long as no one was hurt that’s all that matters, it’s only money right. I read that the Bridgestone Turanza EL400s suck and yeah they do (LOL my winter tires are quieter on the road than these all seasons)… I see cracks in the side wall of two other tires so I’m worried the same thing may happen again in the near future but with me moving, money is tight right now. 🙁

I’ll buy tires now if I have to but ugh it’s going to be painful. What to do, what to do…
