Hmm well hate may be a bit strong and I certainly do not dislike all cyclists, how about I don’t like downtown cyclists? That’s probably not true either but there are enough jerks around to tarnish the group. So what brought this on? While I agree that cycling is an excellent mode of transportation and if it’s a viable option then that’s great, I just can’t stand the jerks.
As a driver, I have to watch out for them which usually isn’t a problem but every now and then you’ll have the aggressive type that weaves in and out of traffic and rides between lanes. Still as a driver I understand that my responsibility so fine. What really gets me though is as a pedestrian, I also have to watch out and give cyclists the right of way… What the hell, one minute they’re riding on the road and the next minute they jump on the side walk because it suits them better. How about those who insist on making a turn even though pedestrians have the right to cross a street?
Hell I even see cyclists give other cyclists a hard time every now and then because one may be going too slow, that and many don’t shoulder check when they move over to pass someone.
Cycling is great when done in a safe and respectful manner but they don’t own the road and certainly don’t belong on the side walk (I guess kids are a different matter). Just this morning there was this asshole on a bike who kept ringing his bell on the side walk for people to get out of his way. It’s always busy on Bloor St and I didn’t have anywhere to go so I told him to wait in line like the rest of us… He didn’t appreciate that and gave me the typical cyclist response to anyone questioning them.
Anyway yeah I can’t stand city cyclists, too bad there’s nothing I can really do about the situation. Hmm maybe I’ll lobby my local city councilor to require licensing and insurance, there were a few high profile cyclist/pedestrian accidents last year where the pedestrian was left with severe injuries. Too bad I’m so lazy these days but if I get pissed off enough I guess that’s a possibility. 😉
