95% eh…

I haven’t discussed climate change or any environmental concerns on my blog in a while… I’m not sure why as these issues are always on my mind but anyway I saw a great article on The Star about certainty.

The president of the prestigious National Academy of Sciences, Ralph Cicerone, and more than a dozen other scientists contacted by the AP said the 95 per cent certainty regarding climate change is most similar to the confidence scientists have in the decades’ worth of evidence that cigarettes are deadly.

Let’s be frank here, the vast majority of scientists and peer reviewed studies say climate change is real. Even if they’re all wrong, it’s still smart for the world to move towards using sustainable sources of fuel and materials. There’s only a finite amount of fossil fuels left in the ground, yes new technologies will increase efficiency but it’s still limited. Sunlight, wind, geothermal & wave energy is absolutely free we just need to find a way to properly harness it.

Anyway the alternative is we continue to destroy our ecosystem and possibly one day rendering human life extinct. Seems like a pretty simple decision to me, the future is renewable and the countries that change their economies to meet the new world will be the ones to reap the most rewards.
