So over the weekend Brian and I went to Tactical Products Canada to do our PAL/RPAL classes and it certainly was an enlightening experience. Our instructors were both very experienced shooters and both had extensive LE backgrounds so it’s nice to know you’re learning from someone who knows what they’re talking about (and they were not just regular officers).
The first day was around 12 hours and we discussed a lot of “theory” with a bit of hands on with rifles and shotguns. That was fun, though by the end of it everyone in the class was pretty darn tired still it was a good feeling going home knowing that I passed the PAL portion. Today we had more hands on training with a variety of handguns and my favorite definitely was the deactivated 1911. Felt good to hold and very natural, I guess all the years playing with the TM 1911/MEU paid off. Anyway after about a 10 hour day I’m happy to report that both Brian and I not just passed but was at the top of our class woo.
Hehe now the waiting starts, first I need to get some forms mailed to me from the CFO then I can send my application in to the federal government… Hear it’ll take about 3 months to process, oh well it’s not like I’d shoot much during the winter anyway so it’s no big deal.
Oh, I did suffer a bit of an in class injury…
Haha no it wasn’t fire arm related, a bunch of us were leaning on a table, it fell over and scraped the hell out of my leg… It’s sore now and I’m sure it’ll be sore tomorrow but it was well worth it. 🙂
So far the guns I have my eye set on are first a Mossberg 590A1, a surplus SKS, a Daniel Defense MK18 Mod 1 and some sort of 1911 (Kimber or maybe Springfield)… Initially I told Maggie I may go with a Norinco ARs & 1911s but have changed my mind and best of all, she doesn’t care about what I get anymore. 😉 I told Brian even if I get the DD MK18 Mod 1, when I move the Elcan SpecterDR over it feels odd that the optic will still be more expensive than the gun and Daniel Defense makes a solid AR.
2014 is going to be FUN, I can’t wait!!!
