A full weekend

This weekend was pretty darn busy, a lot of fun but tiring. Saturday I went to Silverdale with Jeremy and my god he’s an awesome shot for a novice, I’d say he’s on par with me after shooting a year and I think he just has a lot of natural talent. With the H&K HK45CT he was able to hit the metal plate 7/8 times at 10 yards the first time, I think I average 6/8 even now. We gave the Daniel Defense MK18 a good workout, must have put 400 rounds downrange and at one point the barrel was smoking hot. I’m pretty happy with how the rifle is shooting, I might try and get a H3 buffer to lighten recoil a bit more. It’s not a hard shooting rifle at all but I don’t want to get a compensator/muzzle brake so I’m trying to tweak the gun elsewhere.

After shooting probably ~2k of Winchester 9x19mm ammo through my Glock 17, I experienced my first failure which was all the ammo’s fault. I pulled the trigger but didn’t hear a pop or feel anything so I racked the slide, a spent casing came out (thought it was a failure to eject) but the next cartridge would not go into battery. Good thing too because there was a bullet lodged into the barrel!

That was pretty scary frankly as it could have been bad had I fired another round.  All in all we had a good day and lol I had a lot of cleaning to do as you can tell with the picture on the right.  Just to see how dirty I could get the Daniel Defense MK18, I didn’t clean it after last week’s range trip so that’s the buildup of carbon and dirt after maybe 700-800 rounds of 5.56.  The rifle shot like a champ and didn’t have any problems though I did notice at home when I was manually cycling the BCG with the charging handle, it did feel pretty gritty.  I doubt that would have affected the use of the gun but still I gave it a pretty good cleaning, also gave the vz.58 a good scrubbing, necessary after firing corrosive ammo.

In the mid afternoon Maggie, Brandon and I went to the park so the little guy could try his new roller blades and he had fun.

It’s kind of like skating and he doesn’t really know how to glide yet but at least he can balance and walk on skates.  There were a lot of kids running around (the weather was great) so we played for a bit before coming home.

Today we didn’t do too much, bought groceries and had dim sum for lunch which is always yummy.  In the afternoon Maggie took Brandon to the park again, I didn’t feel like going as I have a bit of sun burn on my face and wanted to relax.  When they returned we fired up the BBQ and had a great dinner outside in our backyard. 🙂

A couple of random pictures of Brandon playing with Lego and Simba taking a bath…

Happy the warm weather is here but man with the weekends so busy, they go by really fast too…  Can’t wait for the May long weekend, that’ll be fun.
