Alberta goes orange

So the PC dynasty in Alberta is finally over after 44 years and Albertans have elected a NDP majority.  Living in Ontario, I’m most interested in seeing what the new NDP government will do in terms of environmental policy as the oil sands is as dirty as you can get in terms of fossil fuels, though I don’t expect anything drastic.  Let’s be frank, oil runs the Alberta economy so I doubt there will be much change other than “window dressing” unfortunately and any real change will take many consecutive progressive governments.

I’m laughing a bit at gun owners freaking out at the prospect of having a NDP Alberta…  The populace is generally pro gun and frankly I think the NDP government will have more important things to worry about than giving gun owners a hard time.  A few weeks back I posted a thread on CGN about how gun owners should try and infiltrate and join the other political parties and not rely solely on the Conservative party, too bad most people didn’t read what I was saying and simply bashed the Liberal & NDP parties, told me they’d never vote for either party or that I was an idiot.

Sigh political parties try and appeal to their base first and if the Liberals & NDP parties had a large group of gun owners, they’d be less inclined to have anti gun policies (which to be frank target legal owners and does nothing for criminals).  Oh well, other special interest groups do that but if gun owners prefer to close their eyes to the political reality of the system and just whine and bitch about things, so be it.

I wonder what this will mean for the upcoming federal election in the fall…  Interesting times to follow politics in Canada.
