Today I took Matt (a colleague from work) to Silverdale to shoot for the first time and he had a blast… Haha I was telling him that every new person I bring always has a smile on their face after firing a gun and he certainly had many big ones. 😉 It was cloudy and cool which is perfect shooting weather and while we initially took position on the action range, Silverdale staff quickly moved us to competition range #2 so they could do some upgrades.
It got surprisingly busy for a weekday though it did die down around 12:30PM. Shortly after that we packed up and went to the 200 yard range to shoot the Daniel Defense MK18 rifle at the steel gong and that is always fun. With that rifle and the Elcan SpecterDR I can hit the gong 10/10 times and even Matt hit it at least 8/10 on his first attempt, he enjoyed hearing the “ping” of the 5.56 bullet striking the plate.
The DD MK18 ate the 55gr HP TulAmmo without any problems and it’s noticeably softer than the surplus Norinco 55gr FMJ cartridges I’m use to shooting. I read online that the Russian ammo has a smaller powder load and I guess that’s the reason, in any case I didn’t do any long range accuracy testing but with the milder recoil I could do double taps faster and more accurately. 🙂
I dropped Matt off at around 2PM in Mississauga and thanks to the nightmare of rush hour traffic on a long weekend, didn’t get home till 4:15PM!
Ugh I picked up Brandon slightly after 5PM and we went out for a pho dinner then came home and Maggie took him out when she met a friend. I spent the evening cleaning the guns (the MK18 was pretty darn dirty) an now everything is minty fresh. Haha it feels like a Sunday because I’ve been off the last two days but I still have 3 days to go, kick ass!
