So today I took the day off because I had to see a lawyer with my father in the afternoon but in the morning I went out with Mario to hike around Rattlesnake Point. I took the opportunity to put on and do the walking with my 72 hour emergency pack, I’ve been building it slowly for the last few months and with water it’s just over 30 lbs. Mario didn’t want me to have fun by myself and he loaded his Eagle 3 day pack with about 20 lbs of stuff and we set off at around 10AM.
The terrain was quite hilly and overall the path was much more rustic and difficult than when I went hiking with Maggie late last year but it was alright as Mario and I were up for it. According to one of Mario’s apps, the terrain we traveled varied by over 1,000′ and I’m sure we’d swear some of those hills we crossed seem to go on forever! We met some hikers along the way with most people carrying small packs, no one was insane like us. 🙂
I had to be home by 4PM to meet with my dad so we hiked for about 3 1/2 to 4 hours solid then left and in that time we traveled 7.1 km. Mario got a charley horse near the end hence the face in the last picture at the park but overall I think we did pretty well. Neither one of us was really that tired and I think we could have gone on for a few more kilometers had I not turned us back early. I was very happy with how my body reacted to carrying that much weight walking over difficult terrain so now I know if I have to do it again in the future I’ll be just fine.
After the hike, I drove Mario home came back met my dad and picked up Brandon… Now I’m just relaxing and organizing my range bag as I’m going with a friend to Silverdale tomorrow. 🙂
