Let’s Party Geek Style! =D

As you may have heard the Large Hadron Collider at CERN Geneva has officially been turned on. This is big news for physics buffs, will it find the elusive Higgs boson, the ghostly particle which is suppose to endow all other particles with mass. Is Super Symmetry for real or a bunch of hog wash? Will it confirm the standard model of physics or tear it completely apart, forcing us to rethink our understanding of nature.

The world’s largest particle collider successfully completed its first major test by firing a beam of protons all the way around a 27-kilometre tunnel Wednesday in what scientists hope is the next great step to understanding the makeup of the universe.

NewScientist has an excellent “special report” on the LHC if you feel like reading a few pages. If you’re into science it’s definitely something you do not want to miss. 😀

Edit: Dan just mentioned that the NS articles require subscription… 🙁 I have one but I don’t think they’d appreciate me sharing it on the web, I’ll do a search a bit later and share some more cool articles.
