Woo Metal MP5K!

In the summer I acquired a Classic Army MP5K metal body (a tough thing to do here in Canada) but put off installation because a lot of modding was required to get everything to fit properly. Well after a night of swearing and elbow grease I give you a TM MP5K with CA metal body. 😀

MP5K.jpgMP5K2.jpg

The CA MP5K metal body is devoid of trades or any other markings but that’s not a big deal. I am pleasantly surprised how much heavier the MP5K is with the metal body and it feels very good to wield. There’s still some work to be done but I’m happy and figure I’d post about it. 😉

Woo Ghillie!

I so can’t wait to use my new ghillie suit outdoors. Probably won’t make much of a difference in the snow but man when the weather is more temperate it’s going to rule. 😀

I know the rifle wasn’t wrapped well but that part is a work in progress as I have to make sure the fibers don’t get in the way with the cocking handle and the bolt assembly.

Heh or I can put the rifle wrap on my MG36 (as I told Alan earlier) and be a sniper support gunner. Best of both worlds! 😀

Fun and relaxing

Heh well I didn’t mean for my blog to be updated weekly, things have just been very busy in my life the last little while… Anyway I guess I’ll start with TTAC3 on Friday night. It was a small crowd just Stephen, Mario, Shawn, Alan, Mike, Brian and I and all night we put a few guys in a structure with the rest “going in after them”. I had a great night and had absolutely no problems real capping with my TM 1911! Anyone who’s played airsoft knows that real capping can be quite difficult, especially so if your pistol only holds 7 rounds. 😉 Mike played very well with his new gun, an Echo-1 M14 SOCOM. Despite its long size, he scored some impressive kills, man that guy is getting pretty good.

Heh it was fun being sneaky and hiding where people don’t expect you. 😀 I was even able to score a knife kill with Mario, lol the look on his face was awesome. This Friday team Black Bear is suppose to be coming down to TTAC3 so it may be them vs the GHOSTS. It’ll be fun and you can bet my boys will be prepared.

Maggie spent most of the weekend studying for an upcoming exam so that meant I had lots of time to do whatever. Spent some time playing videogames, tweaking Mike’s MP5K and it’s shooting pretty well now. Finished up Steve’s M4 mechbox and I also reshimmed my G36. 🙂

Sunday the weather was absolutely terrible so we stayed in. I started reading World War Z, it’s a book which I won at the last zombie game and it’s decent. It does a good job at placing you where the events happen and friends know that I’m a zombie freak. Heh I always tell Maggie that I have a plan of action when the zombies take over the world. 😉 I also played a bit with a ghillie suit I purchased a few weeks back and it looks pretty darn cool. I’ll post some pictures of me in it along with my ghillie rifle wrap soon.

Full Weekend!

Well I certainly had an interesting weekend. 🙂 On Friday Maggie and I hooked up with Jacky, Jeannie, Mathew and Sandra for dinner and it was fun. I haven’t seen a few of those guys in months and it was great to catch up. Heh before dinner everyone came over to take a look at Simba and they all agreed that he’s a very pretty cat. 😉 Unfortunately I forgot to take pictures but trust me, it was a blast. 😀

Earlier last week, Charlene was teasing me on something she had planned for Saturday night which would be “fun”. No matter how much I asked, she wouldn’t tell me what it was so I was left wondering for quite some time. Grr must return the favour in the near future. 😉 Anyway as it turns out Mark and Charlene took me to the UofT observatory in Richmond Hill to see the comet 17P/Holmes which on Tuesday had brightened by a factor of a million.

Walk.jpg

As an astronomy buff I had read about it earlier but seeing it was definitely awesome. Looking at the comet tail on through a telescope or a pair of binoculars, it was very fuzzy and almost looked like a galaxy. It was pretty inspiring and definitely gives you a feeling of “smallness”.

After the viewing we went to the London Pub for nachos and wings, heh as usual Mark made a mess of himself. 😉 Mark and Charlene came over to check out the cat and look at some photos from my trip to China last year. Since I had Jason’s M249 at my place, I also showed them that and to my surprise Mark can one hand the M249! That’s pretty amazing considering the gun is about 6kg, that dude is pretty strong.

Sunday was the sniper clinic and Alan picked me up at around 11AM. I have always been interested in the sniper role but found it difficult to play due to the rules at most fields. “Sniping” in airsoft is definitely not the same as in videogames or real life. Anyway the class started at 12PM and we went through what type of kit snipers should have, the role of a ghillie suit, target/object observations and proper movement.

Team.jpg

In the last test of the day our task was to crawl ~100 meters undetected and shoot a metal silhouette of a person. Sigh if my rifle had been sighted properly I could have been first to shoot the target, unfortunately the sighting had shifted (for some unknown reason) and my BBs were flying right of the crosshairs. I guess I should have compensated for that but was competing with 7 others to be first.

I was first to take a shot but was the third person to hit it successfully. After realizing I had a problem with my weapon I crawled up another 20 or so meters and was within 10 meters of the objective, lol at that distance I could have thrown the BB and hit the target. 😉 The sentry was did not see me even though at times I was within 3 meters of his position, I guess CADPAT isn’t that bad after all. 😉

Heh I’m proud to say that I am now level 2 certified as a sniper and can upgrade my gun to fire 450 fps with 0.36g BBs. Non certified players are limited to 450 fps with 0.2g BBs, if I were using 0.2g ammo, my gun would be firing in excess of 600 fps. 😀 Of course with that much power and range, I have to be very careful at what I’m shooting at. Sha Do (the instructor) would definitely kick my ass (or anyone one who was attending) for playing in an unsafe manner. Airsoft is about having fun, if I wanted to “hurt” people I would have stuck to paintball… For the time being I’ll leave my gun at non certified spec so I learn the ins and outs of airsoft sniping first.

Man who knew crawling on your belly for 100m would be so tiring, good thing I sit in front of a computer all day. 😉

Surprise!

Well I certainly had a busy weekend and I guess I’ll start from the beginning. 😉 Friday afternoon I wasn’t feeling so well so I left work early and look what greeted me when I got home…

Type96_2.jpgType96_1.jpg

I traded my STAR M249 MKII LMG for an upgraded Maruzen Type 96 bolt action spring rifle and man I have to say this thing is an absolute beauty! While I’m not sure if I’ll like the “sniper” role, I’ve always loved the look of the Accuracy International L96A1. The gun was painted by the previous owner and it looks very nice. Pictures don’t do the gun justice, it looks great in person.

Friday night Charlene had arranged a surprise party for Mark, it was his 30th and you can bet I would attend. Most of the guys from the team made it out along with some of Mark’s old friends, his brother and parents. Heh I was able to capture the look on Mark’s face when he realized what was going on. 😀

Stunned_Mark.jpg

Absolute gold! To say he was surprised is an understatement, I don’t think I’ve seen a bigger smile on his face after ever and I’ve known the guy for like 8 years. I promised I’d have a drink with him so I grabbed a pint of Stella Artois and that stuff was gross! I wasn’t able to finish it, it was just too bitter but hey I had some alcohol so I did technically fulfill my promise. 😉

Saturday most of the team and I hit a game Jim was hosting at Wasaga. Having not played for over two months, I was worried about being able to survive the tough terrain. Overall the day went pretty well, I was definitely rusty and playing with the Maruzen Type 96 in the morning was difficult (I was too aggressive) but I learnt a lot. With a weapon like that playing passively is better, I need to learn patience.

Wasaga3.jpgWasaga4.jpgGroup.jpg

There are a few pictures that were taken, I used the MG36 a bit but ran most of the day with just pistols. Despite the relatively low temperature the guns worked pretty well and I got plenty of kills after I started playing very aggressively. 🙂

On Sunday Maggie and I went to see a few houses and that was fun. I didn’t want to go at first but I’m glad I did because we saw a few places that we liked. Have to sleep on things though because I don’t want to be too impulsive. 😉

ICS Wiring Sucks!

I like projects and picked up an upgraded but broken ICS AK74 AEG. According to the seller the gun doesn’t fire and he simply doesn’t know why so I figure what the heck I’m pretty good with these things. 😉 Initial impressions of the ICS AK74 exterior anyway are good, it’s very solid and feels quite comfortable to hold. Not quite as heavy as Mark’s upgraded TM AK47 however there’s no wood here, just metal and fiberglass.

Tearing it apart, my suspicions turn out to be correct and the stock ICS trigger mechanism has melted at the contact points. I’m not sure if I mentioned this but a few weeks ago but the same thing happened to Jason’s ICS MP5. Having seen the same thing in this gun (which is suppose to fire 360-370 fps), I feel it’s safe to say if you own an ICS AEG and plan on upgrading the spring to fire 360+ fps you’ll probably want to upgrade the electrical system. It won’t die immediately but it’s definitely the weakest point in the whole system.

Not a pretty sight eh? Well I ordered a Guarder AK butt stock wiring assembly and hope it gets here before the weekend because I wouldn’t mind gaming this sucker. 😀

STAR M249 MKII

Heh I had more than Maggie to look forward to on Thursday, incoming was a STAR M249 MKII LMG. I would have preferred a CA but I got it in a trade for a metal M4A1 RIS, this thing is worth more and I planned on selling it anyway. 😉

The gun is mainly plastic so it’s light and it also has a plastic gear box but from what I’ve read that the mechbox is quite durable. At the moment the gun fires 0.2g BBs at ~300 fps, not great but you can bet that I’ll change that soon.

M249_1.jpgM249_2.jpgM249_3.jpg

It definitely looks cool, I’ll post a review when I take the thing apart and a performance update after I game with it. 🙂

Colin’s new bang

Mark gave me one of his KSC Mac 11’s yesterday and I have to say it’s a pretty cool gun! It’s not a gun that I liked at first but after holding and firing off a few mags, it’s pretty darn awesome. Completely stock it shoots ~350 fps with 0.2g BBs and has an insane ROF! Range at long distances is mediocre only but it’s definitely great for laying cover at shorter distances or for CQB.

Mac11_1.jpgMac11_2.jpg

It’s very compact, the gun itself is about the same size as my TM 1911A1. Got three mags coming for this bad boy and I totally cannot wait to use it on the field or in CQB. 😀

Potential Problem with TM MP7 Cylinder Head

I’m just posting this up so MP7 users are aware of a potential defect with the stock TM MP7 cylinder head. In the last month I’ve worked on two TM MP7s (both stock), one had a jammed mechbox while the other operated with no issues.

Anyway on both occasions after I disassembled the gun I noticed chunks of rubber broken off the cylinder head damper pad (dunno if that’s what it’s called). Again on both occasions the rubber bits were then pushed up elsewhere against the rubber pad which caused an uneven striking surface.

One of the MP7’s had its piston head shatter into several pieces (about 1/4 of the plastic head was broken) while with the second MP7’s piston head developed a large crack on the surface. Unfortunately I don’t have pictures of this part because I’m an idiot and threw out the piston head without thinking. Below is a picture of the cylinder head and the rubber pieces, the damage on both MP7s was in the same location.

I hope this helps those of you who have experienced failures with the TM MP7.
