I want money now

I’m a fan of TYT and well this video pisses me off to no end.

I mean I get it that corporations are designed to maximize profits first and foremost and are amoral entities but to give them as much power as they have now is frightening.  Screw everything and everyone if I can make a buck today, this is why we need government regulation because businesses will not self police or do what’s in the best interest of the planet.

I’m just one man but I’m doing my best to educate Brandon to respect nature as well as lowering my carbon footprint as much as I can.  I really hope we realize as a society that we won’t win in a battle with nature, the planet will be just fine and life will go on long after the last of us are dead.

  1. I am ashamed to admit that corporate greed in America is the cause of so much sorrow and hardship. I hope that the next President will take action to correct this injustice but I fear that none of the current candidates, with the possible exception of Sanders, would dare make such a bold move. What makes me the saddest is the overseas outsourcing of all our jobs. We have become too dependent on cheap labor to supply all the goods that we use in our lifestyle. So very sad.

  2. Hi Tim, I have to say I rather enjoy our conversations. 🙂

As I mentioned in my post, I get it, a corporation is designed to make as much money as possible but there has to be limits and that’s where government regulation is important. Working together businesses can prosper while protecting the environment, workers, etc but this idea that free markets will fix everything is a myth and hasn’t worked in any industry that is unregulated or relatively unregulated (like the banking sector).

I have no problem with the concept of free trade but the way deals are written (by the corporations for the sole benefit of corporations) is a travesty and yes all the free trade agreements and normalization of trade with China has shifted all the manufacturing jobs overseas… I tell people who will listen, China is beating the west in capitalism, everything they export are hit with low tariffs and anything that’s imported into that country is hit with huge tariffs (foreign made cars for example are hit with at least a 100% tax)!

With the system we have in place now, those low skilled high paying jobs are probably gone for good but we can stop the bleeding by implementing fair trade agreements. Both Canada & the US need to educate the young and lead the way in the next generation of technology, computer tech is already led by the US, but both our countries should invest heavily in renewables. Whether we agree with climate change or not, fossil fuels are finite and other countries are jumping on the renewable bandwagon, we might as well and make some money off it too.

Mr. Trump also says the right things on trade but who knows what he’d do if he wins the presidency.

  3. Unfortunately our economic system is setup so that companies and people make the maximum profit at all costs. The concept of Win-Win and mutual benefit is not part of the Capitalistic system that we live with. Free Trade is not “free”, it has a cost for someone.

China is one of our biggest mistakes. For the sake of profit we in America have placed our future in the hands of despots and leaders who want nothing more then to destroy America. On one hand our Business Leaders are sending more & more work to China while at the same time our military prepares for a future war with China who has become more aggressive over time. I do not trust China’s intentions.

As for Trump only time will tell if he can ascend to the Presidency and if he can actually make America strong again.

I really enjoy reading your blog Colin. All it needs is more content about guns and the shooting sports!

  4. Yes I agree, capitalism works to a degree but especially in the US it’s clear to see raw capitalism doesn’t work at all… There has to be a balance, but many western Countries are going the US route with lower taxes/less regulations and more trade. You’re right about free trade, it costs someone in the end but corporations don’t care because they just need to make money.

From an outsider’s perspective, I don’t think China is much of a military threat to the US. They seem content to becoming a regional power at most but world wide, they won’t be able to match the power of the US for decades. Copying technology will only get you so far, China really needs to innovate with new technology in order to surpass the US and I don’t think that’ll happen anytime soon. Economic warfare though is different and the two countries are much closer there and a trade war would be very messy for both parties but you know it may be worth it in the long run if there’s more balance in the relationship between China and the West.

Mr. Trump doesn’t scare me as much as a Mr. Cruz who I feel is an ideologue, Trump will moderate his message the closer he gets to the general. He’s already starting on social issues but his signature policies like the Mexican border wall and rejection of free trade agreements will be there through out and his populace message will appeal very broadly. He can beat Hillary, she’s a bad candidate.

I wish I could shoot more and enjoy my toys but family life gets in the way unfortunately. Dying to pull the trigger again, maybe in a couple of weeks. 😀
