No good choice

I talk a lot about federal politics and from other countries but I’ve kept quiet on the upcoming provincial election because frankly there are no good choices.  Premier Wynne & the Liberals have been in power for a long time and frankly screwed many things up (partly privatizing Hydro One as an example) and frankly Ms. Wynne’s leadership has been toxic, perhaps if she resigned the Liberals would have a chance but it looks like they’ll be blown out this time around.

I don’t believe anything Doug Ford (PC leader) says, he’s taking credit for the work that his brother Rob Ford and the promises he’s made are insane.  How does one lower taxes, gas prices by $0.10 and improve public services at the same time?!?  The NDP has been too amateurish this whole time and it’s clear that neither their leader Andrea Horwath or the party was expecting to be leading in the polls less than 2 weeks out.

I feel the NDP is too in the pocket of public sector unions (I like unions in general but not public sector ones) but of the 3 they seem the least bad.  At least I like her policy of making Hydro One a public utility again though I’m sure it’ll be super expensive.

Sigh, who to choose I’m still completely up in the air… 🙁

  1. I totally agree with your assessment of the Ontario political landscape. Ford’s “plan” as far as it is known is un-achievable unless he has a hidden agenda. Wynne may mean well but she has made many unpopular decisions that do more harm than good. Horwath will say anything to gain power now that her party actually has a chance to form the government. I particular think her promise not to legislate an end to public sector strikes will come back to haunt her badly.

June 7th is approaching fast and I don’t know which party I want to support. I guess my choice will come down to either the Liberals or the NDP.

  2. Hi Joe.

Yes Horwath’s promise not to legislate will be very unpopular indeed. I’m in the same boat as you, though I’m leaning towards the NDP right now.

  3. Hi Colin,

There’s a “rot” in the NDP party. Did you see that two candidates have “extreme” views? One uses Nazi slogans and another uses his right of free speech to condemn Law Enforcement. The NDP Leader has done nothing to expel these candidates!

  4. Hi Joe.

Yes I’m aware, I think it’s wrong but lol what are my choices if I want to stop Ford? I believe the NDP is stronger in my riding which is pushing me in that direction.
