I don’t like Trudeau

To my liberal friends who don’t understand why I dislike Trudeau, here’s a prime example.

“We are proud to make sure that we are supporting the growth in the economy, the good jobs for Albertans and all Canadians while we protect the environment,” he said.

The Liberal government announced Tuesday that it would buy the assets associated with the Trans Mountain pipeline project from U.S.-based Kinder Morgan. Long adamant that the pipeline expansion would go ahead, the government had its hand forced after the American energy giant backed away in the face of ardent opposition in B.C.

The Liberal government is hoping to entice another company to take over the project but if not, cabinet ministers have said they will move ahead with the pipeline expansion at a cost likely to top $7 billion, all at taxpayers’ expense.

Renewable energies are the future and we should get out of this oil business asap, retarded that we’re spending money to help a private company extract oil from the country.

  1. Hi Colin,

The PM is in a tight spot. He needs to show “leadership” in support of the pipeline if the Liberals are to gain any votes in Alberta. The legacy of his father’s National Energy Plan, and it’s fallout in the West, also casts a dark shadow in this case. It all comes down to politics.

The Canadian economy is also heavily influenced by the energy sector. Oil plays a big part here. Until alternate fuel sources are cheaper and more available oil will still be king. We can break out of this mode if we forced society to make huge sacrifices in the short term but no elected government has the courage to do this.

    So sorry …
    Joe

  2. Hi Joe.

You’re right in that governments worry only about the next election and investing in renewables is not something that’s “sexy”, if anything this shows the rest of the world that while Trudeau talks a good game on the environment, his policies are pretty much the same as Harper’s. Needless to say I registered my opposition to the purchase with my MP, perhaps it’s naive of me but I want politicians to do what’s right.

    Thanks.
