Photography weekend!

On Friday I dropped Brandon off at Cub camp and that meant Maggie and I had Friday night & all of Saturday to ourselves woo!  Haha we didn’t really do too much, it’s tax season so Maggie was actually busy with client stuff so Saturday morning I went to the East Rouge Beach to take some photos.  I went there last year with the Beavers and really liked the bridge so I took a few photos around there and farther along the path.

I thought it was really cool to see the ice pancakes and was lucky enough to catch the GO train running across the bridge in one of my shots.  The rock beach was nice and I had a ton of fun photographing the birds, the big ones move relatively predictably so they were definitely easier to shoot.

In the evening, Maggie and I went for a drive up north and ended up ~2/3 way to North Bay lol.  The skies were crystal clear, I wanted to try my hand at astrophotography but just wish I had faster lenses…  I ended up using the Canon 16-35 F4L IS, F4 ain’t great but well it’s the best I got so I have to make due lol.

It was my first time and I didn’t notice that I had star trails till I got home, I guess a 30 second shutter speed is just too long but oh man was it fun.  Overall I’m pretty happy with how the pictures turned out and man I absolutely can’t wait to do it again!  Next time I think I’ll just go to Algonquin park, I was pretty close and I’m guaranteed to find a dark spot there to take photos.

Today I picked up Brandon and it’s a campsite I’ve never been to, thought it was absolutely beautiful and snapped this picture.

The wooden bridge that you drive over to reach the camp site was really nice so I have it there as a foreground interest piece along with the really nice view an interesting looking clouds.  I just wish I didn’t cut the top of the tree on the right off, sigh live and learn right…

I really missed Brandon but man this weekend was great and I had so much damn fun, lol I want to go out to snap some pictures now but I know I should spend some time with the boy.

  1. Hi Colin,

I love your landscape photos, very good eye. I travel all across Canada for my job and the scenery I love the best is the BC Mountains and its forests. I assume from your various posts that you live in the Toronto area so I hope that you can escape the big city and “get back to nature”. Enjoy!

    Johnny

  2. Wow that sounds like a wonderful gig you have there, to be able to see our beautiful country. I’ve travelled to BC and would definitely to go again, the rockies are so scenic and beautiful, lots of opportunity to snap some great photos.

Thank you for the compliment, I’ve never been good with art but I find with my camera I can express my creativity and it’s been so much fun. Yes I live in Toronto and would like to get out more.
