Car maintenance sucks!

So today I brought my car into the dealership for its scheduled maintenance and this time around they do a full car inspection. Anyway at home (since it would take a few hours) I get a call from the service rep and he tells me that my front brake pads have worn down to 30% and that he recommends them to be replaced, that and the brake fluid is dirty so yeah I got to replace that too. The rotors also needed machining but since my car is still under warranty, that was no charge but all in all this cost me $504 with taxes in. 🙁 Sigh not what I needed during the holiday season but whatever I can’t skimp on safety and this is part of car ownership right.

Later I went to Canadian Tire to pick up a toboggan, with all the snow on the ground I figure why not and will take Brandon tomorrow. 🙂 Should be fun, he enjoys playing with the snow and will be his first time sliding down hills, yeah I’ll take some videos and share later.

  1. As much as possible try to learn about your vehicle so that at least certain maintenance work could be carried out by you. Simple thing like an oil change could be done much better than at a dealership where, by keeping the drain plug opened for a extended period of time thus allowing most of the old oil get out. Many vehicle maintenance shops do this so fast that lot of the old is still remaining in crankcase. Transmission, differential fluid too could be done at your driveway if you know the simple facts on these changes. You can save money and your vehicle too.

  2. Hi Mahendra!

Many thanks for the advice, I didn’t inherit my dad’s handy skills but it is something I’ve always wanted to learn. Do you have a suggestion on where to read up on these things?
