My feet are sore…

On Friday night Stephen, Jason & I went to Siege to play airsoft, there were less people but the teams were divided in a way that we were stuck with the newbs all night which definitely made things difficult.  I’m thankful that I was carrying 4 Airsoft Innovations Tornado impact grenades as well as the newer Cyclone, they were useful when the other side massed up.  Starting to get to know the regulars, most are a year into the sport and none of them like playing low light lol!  I played one game under NODs and frankly told them how to counter that advantage because we’re all here to have fun and it’s not sporting otherwise.

Saturday morning I took Brandon to Kumon then at around 12:30pm we left to go to the Eco Spirit hike.  It’s an annual scouting event held for Cubs & Beavers and the kids had a great time. 🙂

The weather was cool and thankfully the kids wore enough to stave off the cold.  It sprinkled here and there but the ground stayed firm which was good since most of the kids including B were wearing their running shoes though I did have a pair of rain boots close by in the car.  After a quick dinner we went for a night walk where the kids either watched Scouts perform skits or leaders talking about the topic of the day which was renewable energy.

We left the camp grounds around 9pm and got back just before 10 which was nice, the boy went to bed and I had a bit of time to unwind.

Today I met up with Jason around 10:45am, we went to Hero Outdoors looking for some airsoft stuff then hit up Sail where I got this…

I thought Maggie would be mad at me but surprisingly she thought it was cool.  Now I need to go to Home Depot to pick up some wood to make a backboard, I don’t want to start throwing and hitting the drywall. I watched the F1 race, too bad Mercedes had a lousy strategy or else Lewis Hamilton could have won his 5th championship oh well he’ll have to wait a week where they all race again in Mexico.  After the race, I loaded up the Toyota Prius with my winter tires dropped it off and came home.  Hopefully it’ll be done tomorrow then I’ll be ready for when there’s accumulation of the white stuff.

Relaxing now, back to work tomorrow.

Beaver no more

Over the weekend we had the annual end of season camp for the Beavers & Cub scouts and I was a bit sad as this is Brandon’s lats ever Beaver event.  Now the groups do a lot of stuff together but I’ll stay a Beaver leader next year instead of going with Brandon to Cubs because well the little guys need me.  Still with that said it was a very fitting way to end Brandon’s Beaver scout tenure as he’s older and a lot more mature than our first camp. 🙂

This year’s theme was the olympics again, the kids don’t care and all of them had a lot of fun.  Needless to say I took a ton of pictures and they speak for themselves.

It really sucks to have flat feet and right now my ankles are sore, put sun screen on but I have some sun burn on the back of my neck and a few bug bites here and there but it was totally worth it.  Brandon and the rest of the kids had a great time and this is why we do it!

Busy weekend

Well I certainly had a busy weekend.  Saturday started bright and early, I went to the range with Laura though before picking her up I dropped by Mario’s place to drop off his Knights Armament RIS, two Norinco NP22 mags and got a Sig P226 mag in return.  The range was fun, I got to try my new Triggertech AR15 trigger and the Sig Sauer P226 though the weather was pretty lousy.

I actually didn’t like shooting the P226 that much, it seemed to have more recoil than my HK SFP9 which is odd since the latter has a plastic lower, maybe it’s the higher bore axis. Anyway we didn’t stay too long and by 11am, we were heading back home.  I wanted to be back for Brandon’s afternoon activities so timing worked out well.

After swimming I put together a small shelf and put it into a large closet in the kitchen.  Maggie previously just stacked stuff on top of each other and there was no way we would ever access things on the bottom, now there’s a lot more usable space.

Today was our Beavers/Cub scouts spring park cleanup and the kids were good.

The weather was ok though it was very windy and remarkably there was a lot less garbage than usual though as Scouter Ron noted, there were certainly a lot of bubble tea cups and straws.

When we returned I put together another shelving unit, this time it’s for the garage and would make it easier to store the tires for my car.  The instructions sucked but it was fairly easy to figure out and I think I have a winner here though I won’t know for sure till later when I pick up my Toyota, dropped it off earlier to get its tires changed.

We chilled the rest of the evening and it’s back to work tomorrow.  Not really looking forward to it but that’s how it goes and I didn’t win the lottery yet. 😉

Everyone loves firefighters!

Today after work we dropped by the local fire hall, I’m trying to arrange to have my Beavers come for a visit and the staff was super friendly.  One man asked me to come to his office while he got me the information and a female firefighter took Brandon around the hall and showed him the trucks. He was pretty darn happy, all kids love firefighters & firetrucks and it was pretty cool they were so welcoming.

Hehe before we left they we took a couple of pics, those fire engines are damn cool, I can’t wait to come back with the Beavers they’re going to love it! 😀

Science Center sleep over!

Picked up a toy Saturday morning but I’ll get into that later, this weekend was the Ontario Science Center scouting sleep over and of course Brandon was attending. 🙂  There were 32 kids, 14 Beavers & 18 Cubs along with 5 leaders so we had our hands full but the kids had a great time.  I particularly enjoyed the IMAX movie Amazing Amazon, about Henry Bates adventures during the 1850s, the dedication and amount of work and sacrifice in the name of science is amazing.

After the movie we played for many hours with the kids, picked up our sleeping bags and headed to the Human Experience section to sleep for the night.  By 11pm, most of the Beavers were tired and when lights went off at 12, we got an unpleasant surprise, the lights directly above us went to about 30% and was still pretty darn bright.  Typically that doesn’t bother me but for some reason it did last night, that and I was awaken 4 times to take the kids to the bathroom so needless to say I’m pretty tired.

The lights automatically come on at 6:45 AM, most of the kids were tired but they did a great job at policing the area and tidying up before going to play more.  We had a quick breakfast and went to the original staging area for 8:50, parents were to pick up the kids at 9.  Unfortunately for some reason or another, one of the parents who’s always late came at like 9:45 but that’s how things go, Brandon and I headed home and relaxed the rest of the day.

I did unfurl both sleeping bags and mats to vacuum, they were full of sand and grit since we were sleeping on the carpet floor so everything is now nice and tidy for next time.  We played a bit at home while Maggie worked on some accounting stuff and I just put the boy to sleep.  While managing so many kids can be aggravating at times, it’s also super rewarding and I’m so happy to be able to spend time with my boy like this.  I know in a few years he’ll be too cool for me, so I’m going to enjoy this while I can. 🙂

Wendy’s Appreciation Night

On Wednesday the 5th/13th Agincourt Scouts, Cubs & Beavers held our annual Wendy’s appreciation night at Victoria Park & 401 location.  They’re a great sponsor and all the staff is always super friendly to the kids. 🙂

The kids had a great time and they’re an awesome sponsor, if you’re in the area and want to support an independent business go to Wendy’s. 😉

Let’s race!

So today was the Beaver Buggy race and lol Brandon smoked the field by a large margin.  The cars are placed on a ramp and it’s all about potential energy so we shifted the weight to the rear (so it starts with the most potential energy) and canted the wheels upwards so there’s less friction, to be fair I told the other kids and parents the secret to the race but it’s not the most aesthetically pleasing so most of the other kids didn’t do what we did, to their detriment.

Science it works, it was also a good lesson for Brandon how important school and winning is, in life winning is everything and my boy did well tonight.

A nice walk

This morning we scheduled a hike for the Beavers, it was at the Rouge Beach park with a guide from Parks Canada.  LOL they’re little kids so it was more of a walk in the park instead of a hike but in any case it was fun.

It was around -10C in the morning and thankfully the kids were dressed appropriately.  A couple of the parents were a bit cold but meh they’re adult sand can fend for themselves.  There were more people doing the guided walk than our group and it was fun to listen to Larry talk about how animals hibernate or deal with the winter weather.

Notably missing is Brandon, he came down with a bad cold (maybe the flu, not sure) Thursday night so I worked from home on Friday and well he wasn’t well enough to come with me in the morning so he stayed home with Maggie.

We walked around for about an hour and a half then the event was over and everyone left, thankfully the parents all participated so I didn’t have to stick around.

Hehe he looks like a little angel when he’s asleep…  Anyway we didn’t do much in the afternoon, Brandon slept on the sofa for much of it then played some games before going to bed early.  I cleaned my basement a bit and right now I’m looking for 1-4×24 optics.  Why I don’t know I feel like putting something on the Norinco AR-15 as I don’t like irons, I probably wouldn’t shoot that gun much but still wouldn’t mind some nice glass.  Well in any case i’m “just looking” right, doesn’t mean I’m going to buy. 😉

What a busy weekend!

I did stuff last weekend and during the week but was just lazy and didn’t post about them.  Some fun stuff was done but meh forward we go.  Anyway this weekend was the Eco Spirit hike for the Beavers and the kids had a great time.  It’s something I really enjoy doing and am glad I can share it with Brandon, unlike when we did it two years ago Brandon was not afraid of the dark and I was very proud of him.

Hehe of course I had to bring my PVS-14 along and I love being able to see everything just in case one of the kids runs off (and they do!).  We were at the Blue Springs Scout Reserve from 2-9pm and the second we went into the car Brandon fell asleep as he had a very full day.

Today we went to Estelle’s place for lunch and it was great.  She made spaghetti and it really reminded me of when we were in Italy last year. 🙂  Brandon and I also had a Pokemon raid event with some of our Valor group and my little guy became the youngest level 40 player in the world. 😀

The current record holder is 11 (10 when he hit that mark) and Brandon is just 7.  We started his account back in Oct of last year and it took just over a year to get to 40, now I don’t know what I’m going to play for but we’ll continue our journey together.  Some of the guys & gals in my group says I should get Maggie’s account to 40 and man that’s a lot of work lol.  I might boost it to maybe 35 but it’s just not worth it with the current version of the game.

A very fun filled weekend and I’ll need to recover from my busy weekend during the upcoming work week.

Park cleanup!

Last year when we did the spring park cleanup I remember sweating because it was so hot but this year it was pretty darn cold.  With that said and knowing we’d be outdoors for a few hours I bundled Brandon up with his winter clothing and I wore quite a few warmer layers too.  We also wore waterproof clothing in case the rain came but thankfully it held off.

The L’Amoreaux North Park is the one we always clean up and man this time around it was pretty disgusting.  I don’t know how people can simply throw out their trash in the woods or fields of such a beautiful park…

The kids did a great job at cleaning up the mess left over from others and thankfully there was nothing that was dangerous for the kids to pick up.  I’m almost always the odd one out since I’m always taking the picture but in the last one, that’s the only time it’s ever ok to stand take pictures standing in front of garbage. 🙂
